oops..hit it too soon..
I hear so much about Karma..and what goes around comes around...

what does that REALLY mean? is it just vibes you are giving off to the world?

everyone tells me that my ex just losing his job...is KARMA...because he was SO horrible to me during the divorce and treated me terribly.

could that possibly BE Karma? and what would connect the 2.

other than he was fired, because he was just as abusive to his employees.

and so, does that mean he will NOT find a job? AND...if I think that I would like him to feel a little of the pain he caused me, that I will have bad karma???

just some thoughts would be nice.

Nvr,

I recently watched this video, "The Secret" having hearing about it on Oprah. It very much talks about how if you put out positive feelings and thoughts and behaviors, positive things will come back to you. You can't just think positive, you must feel it! I was really moved by this video and I'm so glad and got it. It makes so much sense. And the same goes for negative people. You know those people that just tend to keep having bad things happen one after the other. Sounds like there is probably a reason for it, because they believe bad things will happen. The more you think something bad is going to happen, kind of like how we think it will in our relationships, don't we kind of make that come true?

So not sure if this is "karma" or what. But it seems to make sense.

i think karma works more in the way of every action has a reaction.

so, when we do bad things to others that negative energy and pain returns to us in a different way. the same way when we do good things.

HOWEVER, if your husband treated you terribly...I don't think is because you deserved it...starving people in the world...they don't deserve it... if someone is raped and murdered I don't think they deserved it or "had it coming"...so when we get to that...I don't have an explanation.

but if we all kept to the "do unto others ...." it would probably be a better world.

hey, don't feel bad about wishing your ex some bad luck....heck we are also humans and negative thoughts are just as real, as human and as necessary as positive ones.

just a thought.

Thank you so much for this thread. You have just inspired me.

I have a true story to tell.

Years ago, I had just split up with my partner, and I was trying to build up my new world.

So I booked myself a w.e holiday to somewhere, where I did not now anyone.

I felt exceedingly lonely, and negative. I sat in the park, and wrote down how I was feeling. Most of my thoughts were negative.

After this I realized I had to change the energy inside me. So I started writing my gratitude list. I wrote so much, and I wrote to god about everything I was grateful for.

Now I am not religious, but I do believe in a higher power.

Anyway, whilst sitting in the park, this man was walking with a friend of his and a dog. I new this man from a dance event I went to years ago.I was in shock! How could he have appeared from nowhere, and be just walking with his friend and a dog in the park. Well we started talking. One thing lead to another. That evening we went out for a meal. Had a lovely time.

My loneliness had gone. I was so happy, not so much at the thought of seeing him, but at the whole process of changing my negative head to a positive one.

So, yes, I do believe karma works.

So I am off to change my negative head to a positive head right now and to write my gratitude list.

Thank you.xx

at it again...I think I am going to get that video..I have been meaning to, but I think that I need to check it out.
so, yes...is that 'Karma' or just being a negative or positive person? hmmm...or just the way you look at something?
now, I think my ex losing his job is a GOOD thing...he needed NEEDED to get knocked down a little, he was TOO much of an *ss, and the people that worked for him called him 'god' because that is what he thought he was, he needs to get back in the 'game'.

double loss..Ok I so I understand thinking he 'deserves' this..or brought it on himself, but what does MY negative thinking towards him do, makes me NO better than he is.
and yes, I do not understand the starving people or raped people, I do not think they deserve it either, I am just not sure where that fits in..

courage, wow, what a story!
does that happen? 🙂
I am reading in one of my co-dependent books about gratitude and letting go.
giving thanks for things you have been given.
and I realized I have been SO focused on the BAD things that have happened to me throughout the divorce (which was HORRIBLE) that I did not give thanks for the GREAT things that happened to me...
I became independent...I built a new house, I got promoted in my career...my kids and I have a WONDERFUL relationship, that I would never have had because I was SO focused on HIM and HIS problems throughout our marriage.
so, you are right..I need to sit down and be grateful for what I have been given and the tools that I have developed.

and know that my higher power will take care of me and change my thinking.
and there are times that I do wish him well...because for my kids, they need their dad sane.
but his need to hurt me confuses me so much. that I wonder if it is ME that is the bad person, and if I am....
will it all come back to me.

I am off to get the 'secret' and hope it changes my life! 🙂

thank you!!!

Oh and The Secret talks a lot about Gratitude! I think that really works. If you're greatful for what you have and not constantly running after what you don't, you'll be so much happier!

For me, this video really changed me and I already gave it to a friend to watch and plan to share it with others. It's $35 but I think very much worth it. I already can't wait to get it back from my friend to watch it again.

Sorry, not a promo I promise, just saying, I really liked it! 🙂

Nvr ~ I tend to believe karma is something like "what goes around, comes around" and it is more actions than thoughts or words. Like in the Secret. If you feel and think good and positive about yourself, it makes others feel good and positive about you and you bring more good and positive people into your circle. The same would be true for bad and negative feeling. And I think that goes for actions. I believe there is a difference in 'Karma' and 'instant Karma'...one is supposed to be for actions, good or bad, in a 'former' lifetime, the othere, 'instant Karma' pertains to this lifetime. At least, that is how I it is...in my opinion.

Karma originates in the Hindu and Buddhist religions and is a central concept for these religions. (similar to the 10 commandments being a central concept in Jewish and Christian faiths). It is basically a count of all of your actions- good, bad and neutral with the idea that you create your future through your current actions. Since these religions also beleive in reincarnation- your Karma carrys over to your next life and in some views determines who you are in your next life.

Here are some websites with more info on the Buddhist view of Karma...

http://www.buddhanet.net/e-lea...../karma.htm

http://buddhism.kalachakranet......karma.html

And here are some with the Hindu view of Karma...

http://www.himalayanacademy.co.....ation.html

http://hindudharma.wikidot.com/karma

Pop culture has created its own view of Karma which has its basis in the Dharmic religions, but isn't quite the same.

If the concept helps- regardless of which version(s) you accept, then by all means add it to your life. I don't subscribe to any one religion. I research whatever I come across. If it helps me deal with the world and be a more positive productive person, then I keep it. If it doesn't then I let it go. All beleifs and faiths have value and merit. But not everything fits into my life.

thank you all for sharing your thoughts..it seems that it is looked at in a personal way...
if you believe it is 'you reap what you sow', then it is for all of us to be good people and people don't say about us..'they will get theirs....'
which I believe would be HORRIBLE to have anyone say that about me.

but, then I wonder what is going on with the people that are evil, mean and truly 'bad' people...I guess that is where no conscious comes in.

so then, when is it instilled to be a good person, and do good things...
and do the 'mentally ill' get what they 'deserve'?

since i have been thinking about this so much, it is hard for me to really 'get' it...and in some ways I do.
but I wonder where the HP (How ever you see that) comes in and says....
'geez, you have done some BAD things...so, I am going to give you something to deal with'?

so, I suppose I could talk this whole subject in a circle...
but, I agree with all of these ideas, and I hope 'karma' does exist..but, I do believe I have done some great things with my 'karma'....

and I am going to look at those websites! thank you chelonia, I guess I will be reading up on a religion I know nothing about!

and I cannot wait to get the secret...which should really not be a secret..because we seem to KNOW this...maybe just needed a reminder..

Nvr2late, this is a great thread, thank you. A long with the Secret Video, I suggest watching the movie What the Bleep do we Know. This movies, explains further how our thoughts affect us physically and the world around us as well. I really liked it. I think In karma we have the concept of destiny and self will. Regardless of how great our destiny might be, our will can affect the outcome not only that how we use our will can affect the lives of others for many generations to come. Hence all the evil perpetrated by humans all over the world. That's why I think we are encouraged to stay grateful and prayerful and to do good deeds so we are constantly in touch with the goodness of our will and then we begin to think negative thoughts we can correct ourselves.

fantas..
hello...thank you for the suggestion on the other movie...I don't know why I am stuggling with this, but I just want an understanding of why we are here...I was just at church, it was the 'inner city' week...and it was SO uplifting and powerful..and the chaplain for the youth prison gave the service...he was in a very bad place and changed his life for the better and helping the youth that are in prison see there is another way..and he was saying...
'if you don't have prayer, you don't have a God'...

which struck me as super simple and actually TRUE.

so, as I struggle with this, to make sense of it all..
I just wonder if this is something that is actually 'alive' in this world.

and with all the responses here, I know it is...and you create your karma...what goes around comes around..and I am glad I am creating a GOOD karma, and I will not wish my ex any bad will on finding out what it was like for me to lose everything, I will just hope that someday this will be a learning lesson and he will see that the alcohol is not working anymore for him...and being evil and he needs help.

all I can do is hope that he 'gets it' at some point.

so I am reading the 'secret' which is very interesting to me.

so we create our own karma...and negative thoughts that you have about other people (MY EX!) come back to you...

but you can change your thoughts...so, I am changing my thoughts because I only want good things for me.

nvr,

thanks for bringing this subject to light. To me Karma is many thing to many cultures. In our area the Navajo people call it walking the 'Beauty Way' If you fall out of harmony, say, for instance by becoming angry or harming yourself in some way, you bring bad things to yourself and others, like illness or bad luck. It is believed that merely thinking something will manifest in a very real way. I have come to realize that in many ways this is very true. The way you think, your attitude has very real impact on yourself an others. Thought is very powerful, and we should be very aware of what and how we are thinking about ourselves and others.

desert moon...I agree.
it seems to be the same concept of how you live determines how you LIVE.

I am going to see if this thing works.
I am going to try the ask, believe thing.

it seems like it is the way to go even if it does not 'work' in all of my areas of life.

because I do know that there are things I have wanted and I am VERY glad I did not get them now!

thanks all...I love this thread!
