Were you threatened by the Boogey Man or the Devil if you misbehaved?
a. If so, what were your fears in this regard?

I was never threatened by either.

I was affraid of everything. I guess the things in the dark that I feared were boogymen.
But I don't remember anything coming as a threat from family. Except a bullying jerk of a sibling.

OOOOOHHHHHH My daddy used to tell me that if I didn't give him a kiss goodnight the boogeyman would get me. Sometimes I would be so afraid I would dive under the covers and he would "talk" to the boogeyman and tell him to go away. I have NEVER used this on my child.

When I was a kid the whole Bloody Mary thing was popular. You were supposed to say Bloody Mary 3 times with your back to the mirror in a dark room and say her name 3 times she will come for you and either scratch out your eyes or take you into the mirror with her. Well I had a mirror as a part of my headboard I was so afraid one night that she was going to get me that I cried. Well punishment for this was having to go into the bathroom with the lights out and having to say her name. I couldn't leave untill I did this. I was SO terrified. The legend goes that after you do this she can take you anytime your in a dark room with your back turned with a mirror. I still have problems with it and I am a grown women and know better.

I was afraid of my mother. She would come into my room at night and wake me up and promise me that she would kill me when she least expected it.
She would also wake me up to beat me bc she found a soap sud on the dishes that I had washed 4 hrs previously (what kind of soap sud lasts that long?!).
Sometimes I would come home to my clothes packed, her begging me to leave home bc she didnt want me. She would donate food to the childrens home in another far off town "just in case I ended up there".

When she died 5 yrs ago, I never turned my back on her dead body bc I was afraid it was all a joke and that she would jump out and scare me or kill me when I least expected it. This yr when the dr told me I had to have surgery I drove 150 miles toher grave begging her not to come to me on the operating table and kill me when I least expected it. I know that fear was totally irrational but nevertheless she put that much fear into me, lasting even 5 yrs after her death.

When I was a very young child she would threaten to take me to the Dr and let him hurt me if I didnt behave. Even then in my small mind I wondered what he could do to me if my own mother could beat me and threaten to kill me. Then they wondered why I cried every time I went to the Dr. til the age of 10.. -duh-frickin dumbshits!

Thank god I am over the fear of her now.

I was never threatned by the boogie man by my parents, it was just that God don't like bad children; therefore, if I acted bad, I thought that God would strike me down! However, my older brother and sister always threatned me with the boogie man, they were horrible.

I was never threatened with God the devil or a boogeyman. My mother's authority and wrath was quite enough to keep me in check.

Bloody Mary! That is so scary! I just told some kids that story around Halloween. I also told them that they could leave the room if they got scared because I never did Bloody Mary and/or practiced telling the legend when I was alone, even now as an adult! I am not superstitious, but that one works very well because people basically psych themselves into it. Your mind can be scarier than anything out there.

When I was really little, my grandmother lived in a big old house with coal bins in the cellar. She told me that's where she put all the "naughty children." She did the laundry down there and when I came with her I asked where they were and she told me they were hiding in the coal bins. I was petrified I'd end up like I pictured them, skinny, pale from lack of sun and nutrition, scared quiet, and covered in grey coal. I don't think she really thought I believed her! I had an active imagination.
