At least you got a lovely meal and some company for your birthday, even if it was the ex. The thought of you spending it totally alone, broke my heart a bit. :o( As for all of the others that you were hoping to receive greetings from, I'm sorry, and I'm sure they would be sorry too if they knew how much it meant to you. Next year, maybe try another approach. Make plans for your birthday ahead of time - like a day full of pampering, or a small day trip to a fun place out of town with one of your friends. I've just learned, after a few bummer birthdays, that taking matters into your own hands, instead of waiting for someone else to make our day special, is sometimes the best route. My 40th birthday, this last December, was the worst birthday I've ever had in my life. That will never happen to me again if I have anything to do with it. But the year before was WONDERFUL beyond belief. So it ebbs and flows, girlfriend. Hang in there and happy birthday once again.

I'm going to try to do that birthday cake thing that luv2luvher tried earlier... And remember, if it doesn't work, it's the thought that counts :o).

Shaney, you are simply LOVELY! Many hugs to you for your great kindness, & a few happy tears of feeling 'touched' too!

I'm still hoping that cake Luv made me, and now yours too, are Belgian chocolate ones!! My daughter promised to bake me one (last year she did & it was absolutely scrumptious) but she went out instead.

So here I am alone, imagining people singing "Happy Birthday" to me ... [Kathy woulod tell me to sing it to myself - so ok, here goes...]

There. That still feels a bit lame. P'raps I should try going further & lighting candles for myself to blow out & make a wish .... this feels so embarrassing & self-indulgent ... & plain silly ... but ok, you win, Kathy, I'll at least try it. There's no-one around after all, so no-one will ever know. (Except you cyber-lot! Shshshsh - you won't tell anyone, will you?!)

Here goes ... feeling daft ... will do it & get back to ye ...

(((gazelle))), I'm SOMEONES mother for what it's worth, and I want to wish you a very happy upcoming year and say how wonderful it is that you where born. I think you should stretch it out and make tommorrow your birthday too--buy yourself something frivilous, blatantly oogle a 21 year old hottie, have a drink with lunch, don't make your bed, listen to music you feel silly telling people you like (we've all got soemthing like that). You can't count on others to make you happy, they may or may not be able to or even try to. Which is depressing, but the upspin is, you KNOW how to get the job doen yourself, so tommorow you should give YOURSELF the great birthday you deserved today. Hugs, ef

What fantastic ideas, Exoticflower! Why can't I ever think up luvverly things like that?! I will actually try to do them all tomorrow and count it as a cyber-present from you & Exoticflowerfairybaby 🙂

Though for 21-yr-old, I think I'll act more like my ancient age & pick on a mature, George Clooney-type older man to smile at alluringly! Do I have your permission to buy / wear sea green fishnet tights with my floaty hippy skirt? And may I really listen to old R.E.M. & Radiohead?!
Not make my bed? Wine with lunch? Embarrassingly sentimental music? Really??? Wow - now you're talking!
Thanks, you lovely person you! xxx

ps I lit a new scented candle, (no cake,) switched the lights off, sang H.B. to myself, made a wish & blew it out.

Couldn't bring myself to talk to myself, but I did take a pic of myself blowing it out on a cakeless plate to mark the occasion. Is that narcissistic? It felt weird. There. At least i tried. Hope that gets Kathygy's approval. Lol.

I think it sounds great, and I think a day of blasting Joshua Tree or Monster would be good fun (though I am more of a U2 girl myself).

Maybe I came across the idea because I am entirely too self indulgent? Now I am worried!!!

Let us know how it goes tommorow, it sounds like so much fun when you describe it! Now I want to have a second birthday too!

Shelbeegirl coming back to tell you what an absolutely wonderful human being you truly are! When you posted earlier, I think all of us were right there with you. Who else can say that they are soooo special that they have friends all over the United States thinking of them and wishing them a truly happy birthday!!!! You are really quite remarkable! Be proud of yourself! And, you are getting smarter and stronger the right way.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday! I to know what it feels like, I always go all out for everyone else..yet I don't really get acknowledged.

However my birthday is next week to..so why don't we treat ourselves celebrating it how we would for someone else. Give ourselves what we want. Want to meet in Hawaii for a birthday drink ha ha. If only their was the money that would be a nice birthday retreat. So instead maybe I can make myself a pina colada and take a bubble bath by candle light...after a full day of shopping lol. =-What about you????

Hope you have a wonderful year. You deserve to have a great one.

Happy birthday, gazelle. I can relate to your feelings....my birthday is coming up soon, and I have vowed not to have great expectations and let myself feel disappointed. That is what I usually do. I've decided to make my day special for myself, and not count on others to do it for me. I've spent many years doting on other people, and expecting them to do the same in return. When they don't, I am hurt. It isn't fair, and I'm trying to change that behavior. After all, I can only control my behavior. I'm glad you had some positives on your special day...do something great for yourself. You deserve it!!! ((((birthday hugs)))))

Hi Gazelle,

Happy Birthday to you!!!

Sorry things aren't the way you hoped the would be on your special day, especially with your mom.

My mom wasn't really big on Birthdays either; Christmas was her thing. She was from a large and poor family and her parents didn't place much emphasis on the sheer "frivolity" of birthday celibrations (which happend like 12 times a year in her household).

Her family's mentality definatley carried over into her adulthood; even though she could afford to indulge us, on birthdays, she never did. As a kid, I can count the number of parties I had on one hand and stil have fingers left over. As a adult, I always had to call her if I wanted to hear from her on my birthday. I know she loved me and birthdays just weren't her thing...yet, it still hurt a lot.

Much like yourself...I am a super-duper Birthday acknowledger, especially for my son. I make the entire day about HIM (from breakfast to bedtime) and he loves it. Our of our favorite rituals is "Let me tell you exactly what mommy was doing 7,8,9 years ago today. It's a really special time for us.

Had my mother not been so cool on the subject of birthdays, I don't think I would be so passionate about them today. I'm sure the peoople in your life REALLY love the way you make them feel special on their birthdays also. Yes, it does suck when they don't reciprocate. But, I think it just means (dispite what our mothers did) we are doing a bang up job of acknowledging the day for our loved ones. It means they will never have to feel what we felt. And we should pat ourselves on the back for that.

To ((((((Gazelle)))))) the big hearted Aquarius who's post keeps me pinned to my dictionary!

H a p p y B i r t h d a y T o Y O U !!!

Just popping back here one last time to re-enjoy all my delightful Birthday messages and save them to my pc for the next rainy day!

Thank you to Kathy for her 'mothering' allowing me to accept all of myself (a new feeling!) to Exotic for fab ideas, to and Shaney for amusing assertiveness; to Raspberry-Girl for the sorts of blessings I usually heap upon people; to Luv for his delectable Chocolate Cake with candles! (Hey - and Shaney's candle-ly cake too !)

Thanks to Mamac for singing (wahaay!), to Shelbee for the confidence-boosts, to Hopeful, Ready, Y&R and Rev & Zinnie for pitching in with your respective empathy with my feelings, friendly encouragements, good-hearted cheer and even some compliments & humour! (Wish I were really 'leggy'like EF, or had 'doe eyes' instead of green ones to go w my long neck. Lol.)

Much gratitude & love to all my cherished good-hearted cyber-friends! - from much cheerier Gazelle 🙂 XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Gazelle - I am baking a chocolate cake, my favorite, for your birthday this week-end. I will say a prayer to you and wish you a better tomorrow. Do you love chocolate cake???

When the cake is baked, I will slice a big piece of it and make cocoa and give you your piece of cake with hot cocoa across this screen. How about that?

(((Happy Birthday Sweet Gazelle!)))

PS: Your sense of humor is HILARIOUS!!!

I liked in particular that sentence which says:

"ps I lit a new scented candle, (no cake,) switched the lights off, sang H.B. to myself, made a wish & blew it out.

Couldn't bring myself to talk to myself, but I did take a pic of myself blowing it out on a cakeless plate to mark the occasion. Is that narcissistic? It felt weird. There. At least i tried. Hope that gets Kathygy's approval. Lol."

ROFL!!! I actually really DID all that too, honestly - all alone! (sad or wot?!)

My mouth is watering already in anticipation of your chocolate cake. Please make it with the darkest, smoothest Belgian choc ... & add a dribble of Raspberry coulis ... mmmmm! I'll be here, waiting to download a gargantuan chunk to my hard-drive to hack slices off whenever I feel the urge! (Hope it keeps - though it won't be kept for long when it meets my choco-lust! Lol.)

I'm v v nearly up to my new age in number of posts on here!!! Just 1 more post will get me there; then I'll quit & leave you all to heave sighs of relief ... & satisfaction as I continue to hand around choccie cake & drinks galore to all 🙂

PS Well, ExoticFlower, I didn't find a George Clooney today 🙁 But I did agree to meet a nice older chap - a uni lecturer - for coffee on Monday 🙂 And I did sport my new dainty green fishnets & English-hippy retro skirt. Feels good. And ta for reminding me how energising U2 w Bono sounds. I love 'Vertigo' on 'How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb'.
