I think that I put this here once before but I couldn't find it...I just thought I would let GG know that poetry is my way of dealing with things sometimes too.

It was Stolen Jan. 19, 1993

Nobody asked my permission to take it..
It was stolen.

Maybe I would have saved it until I was married...
It was stolen.

Sometimes it is hard to face the facts..
It was stolen.

Sitting there so unexpectedly,
Someone came up and stole it from me.

I was not ready at all to give it away..
I was saving it for a more important day.

At a time in my life, I used to trust,
I no longer can, because of your unlawful lust.

Used to have a happy heart,
Until you came along, and ripped it apart.

What you did, gave you no gain,
Except the fact, you put me through so much pain.

The same is something that I probably never will be,
Because of what it was that you stole from me.

I find writing sometimes to be my only release especially during darkest times.

I am so sorry that you hurt. Love you, GG

Love you GG, you are the sweetest thing. I just wanted you to know that you weren't alone, and this is just one more way to show us how we are alike. I did post to you on my other thread also. I hope you are doing well. Miss you. Mich (((hugs)))

Brynnie and Needtoheal,

I like gg, have an entire forlder of these that NOBODY has read. This one has been shared, and I put it in our school newspaper in high school. It was anonymous, but this poem gave another girl the courage to tell someone for the first time what she had been through. Though it is sad, so many of us have been there, and I think that sometimes it is helpful to other people, even if it is to only know that we are NOT alone. I know that a LOT of people on this site know the pain that this poem holds. It is a shame that we ever had to know.

Thank you for sharing your powerful poem, and the story of how it helped another girl in your high school.

kroika

Good to see you, hope all is well with you. I, like GG, have never been big on sharing my poems because it bares my true feelings, but I felt safe here, and I felt like it was worth it if it touched anyone here.

Mich thank you for sharing that poem. It touched me.

Just last night at work as I walked through the halls after the girls went to sleep - I was admiring the art work one of the girls did...I made mention to a co-worker that I have seen such incredible gifts and talent pass through by the patients- the art work, poetry, poems, and songs.

It amazes me so much that those with the deepest pain have the greatest impact on the world, truly. We wonder why suffering happens, why innocent lives have to be hurt but yet its through suffering and pain we gain so much understanding more on a spiritual sense.

And it doesn't seem fair that those who take from others, that those who hurt others seem to be able to go on while those left in pain may struggle throughout life. It's what we choose to do with that pain though...and sharing this poem is one example of a beautiful way to touch another's life.

Thanks LL and Soul,

You guys are great. I am comfortable sharing my pain with those who have experienced it, or who have the ability to support those of us who have. The support around here is phenomenal. My hope was to touch someone by putting this back on here again, and I am glad that I have.

Mich - have to agree with you about the support around here...{as well as that you posted your poem}. Had I not found this place, couldn't even imagine. It is people like you that have and are enriching my life.

I like this poem.

What is "the same" in this last line:

The same is something that I probably never will be, Because of what it was that you stole from me.

Free,

Well, at 10, I still had innocence, security, self-worth, and before I was actually raped the first time, I still had my virginity. That was all stolen in short amount of time, and some of that are things that I will NEVER get back.

Hi Scared!

First, let me say that I am SO SORRY for leaving you hanging- I had not read your response. I'm really bad about that- i get caught up in a thread, post a response, check on responses and if I don't see one before the day's over, I forget what thread I was on the next day and am just too impatient to read through them. I have thought alot about this poem. It speaks volumes. I am so sorry to have left you hanging.

I'm not certain what "the same" is. It's vague to me. I'm a rape survivor as well, scared, I am so sorry this happened to you. there are many things I can see placed in the spot "the same". I'm wondering what it is that YOU would place there.

for me, it's virginity. I'll never be a virgin because it was stolen from me. The loss of virginity, or so it seems, is something much more than a sexual act, especially during violence.
