Lately I keep having these deep feelings of sadness and I am not sure why. Could there really not be a reason? Or, is there reasons that I am afraid to explore? Or, is sadness part of the passage of life? I just would like some input on anyone's thoughts.

Thank you for listening.....

Hi GG,

Only you know the reason for your sadness.

For me, if I am feeling sad it is generally caused by the thoughts I am choosing to think. When I can identify that I am feeling sad, then I look back and explore what I have been saying to myself and usually I can find my answer.

I recently started attending a Depressed Anonymous Support Group. We announce that I am Name and I sadden myself. This group has taught me that I have a choice. I get to choose the thoughts I think. It has been helping me to defer and lessen my depression. They have lots of tools for helping me in my recovery from depression.

This could also be horomonal or an imbalance.

I am clincally depressed. before I had therapy and started taking lexapro I thought it was just part of life. Having two misscarriages close to gether really threw my hormones out of balance and it caused me to feel sad a lot.

gg -

sadness - short term or long?

is there always a reason?

well - I suppose there is always SOME reason.

Some days you are sad cuz of the things going on in the world, some days the weather brings you down, some days you are sad cuz someone did something to make you sad, some days you are sad cuz you don't feel well, some days you can be sad cuz you didn't sleep well.

I would say there "could" be a reason for most sadness.

As someone mentioned - there could be a hormone or chemical imbalance that makes you sad even when there isn't a reason.

Some women get sad during their period or the week before...due to hormonal changes.

Some people have chemical depression that makes them sad all the time.

And if you have continous sadness, you could try some omega 3 supplements...which are all natural and good for you in many many ways...get out into the sunshine, as this always helps brighten a mood...and drink plenty of water. Make sure you eat right, or take a good multivitamin with iron...anemia can make you tired and sad too.

My brother takes omegas and a supplement called Sam-E - which helps his mood and focus and controls his achy pains in his body.

Others take other supplements like st. johns wort, or htp-5 or msm...I also need magnesium to perk me up...but take a powder, not a pill.

All in all, I think Omega-3 supplement, which is a fish oil, really does help with some of the overall sadness...and is excellent for your overall health.

gg,

I too was told about fish oil from Jim. He swears the same thing. That is will help. Sounds nasty to me...but if it works..it could go from nasty to good in no time. I also struggle with "fish oil". It just creeps me out. I think things from the sea are NOT meant to be ingested...they are meant to be seen. :o)

I do NOT believe that we have to always have something in particular causing our sadness. I think that sometimes it can be lonliness, I think that it can be a lot of things. Or sometimes i think that it can be a lack of things to do. I think that it can be a gloomy day, or a huge fight. What causes sadness is SO many things. I guess I believe that there is always something that causes it, we just may not always know what it is that is causing it. Does that make sense?

If it continues for long periods of time, then I would consult a doc. I would say that this is not going away. You may be on the wrong meds, or not strong enough. Your hormones could be out of wack. You may not be getting enough sleep. It could be SO many things.

Just know that I love you girl, and I am holding you close in your time of sadness.

gg,

In my experience with depression some of it is self imposed, your mind can get stuck, kind of like a record that is skipping, if your mind is used to being depressed, low levels of seratonin, then you may feel sad a lot.

Working out and putting yourself around other people and discussing your feelings may help lift your spirits.

It could be that you are keeping yourself trapped with some negative thoughts that maybe you are afraid to release, like you said.

Sadness is always a part of life, but if you are sad for days and days something chronic may be going on.

I take 5HTP myself. It is a natural, amino acid which increases seratonin and lifts your mood. Plus it aids in weight loss if you have a couple pounds to shed, it increases metabolism.

So the answer is there a reason for feeling sad, yes! But not for overly long periods of time 🙂
