Invitation to participate in an exercise: Instead of a "Things to do list" how about a "Things I have done list".............

It occurred to me just how much time I spend going over and over in my head - all of the things that have YET to be completed on my "To Do" list that often I just let myself get so discouraged and overwhelmed - that I simply abandon the entire process altogether.

So now, I have decided to take just a little, bitty portion of that focus and turn it towards those things which I HAVE DONE - in order to give myself much needed encouragement and pride........

Really strange at first....to take that "wallowing" reflex/conditioning and turn it towards something that takes even my smallest of accomplishments and puts it square in the spotlight of self-refelection.

It's taking a real change of heart to do this - to flip the old habits - but I am starting to take very small steps....if only to entertian this notion for only a few seconds at a time.

I was wondering if anyone else has been doing something similar to this as well and how it is working?

Thanks.

ps - I guess the bottom line is to focus on the accomplishments (no matter how small....could even mean just getting out of bed in the morning, taking a shower etc....)rather than ALWAYS and in ALL WAYS focus on what needs to be accomplished.....you know?

tbt, what a wonderful thought. When I sat down at the computer, I was telling myself that I have things I should be doing instead of sitting here. I never think I accomplish enough in a day. A list would make a good thread also.

Thank you!

ggfred4,

You are welcome.

I am trying hard to envision and give incredible creedence to the things that I actually DO accomplish - and put THOSE thoughts high on a pedestal and let the things that I have left to do fall by the wayside........

(Instead of the other way around.........)

Kudos to us all for accomplishing the small (seemingly insignificant things we do every day) and taking enormous pride in ourselves for doing it!!!!!!!

TBT ~

KUDOS!

There must be something 'out in the universe' which some of us are picking up on. I have been thinking the same way. I sit here trying to make up my 'to do' list and when I keep adding to it, I get to procrastinating and not accomplishing anything on my list, making me feel bad.

Lately, I have been thinking about making another list of accomplishments that I have made recently and in my past - to show myself I can accomplish things, I can get things done, and that I can be proud of myself for accomplishing all that I have - instead of putting myself down when I feel overwhelmed by my to do list and not doing a damned thing to do anything!

LET'S make it out HAVE DONE list!

red,

A "HAVE DONE" list......I love it!!!!!!!!!

I'll start:

HAVE DONE TODAY:

Got up and got dressed.

Feed all the cats & kittens and gave them clean water.

Sent a small check to the site coordinator

Made the bed.

Found the courage to post a thread about something really serious that I had been procrastinating about.

That's about it for now........

What a wonderful thread!

Things I have done list!

Today, I got up and before my feet hit the floor I said a prayer of gratitude. I did my morning meditations and worked on my housecleaning. A neighbor called and invited me over to meet a friend of hers for coffee. I asked her to go to our Street Market that I had never attended. We had an enjoyable time and found that our town has a quilting shop with lessons. She shared some of her garden plants with me and I came home and transplanted them. Went into another city and went to a few stores and came back and repotted several of my houseplants and a new Gardenia plant. Took a call from a coda member, fed my cats, ate some lunch and watered all my outdoor plants and ate Chinese outdoors with my hubby who bought take out. I read too! It was a Fun relaxing and productive day for me! Thanks for sharing your days too!

I have cleaned off my porch and tossed what I didn't want or need any more...and I have things to take to salv. army or good will.

I pulled everything out of my shed, cleaned, put up some new shelving, put everything back and it looks clean and neat and uncluttered.

Gessoed over some old painting that I was not happy with...to repaint.

I have my kitchen half decluttered and reorganized.

Have gone through half of my summer wardrobe and weeded clothes out that are now too big on me because I have been losing weigth.

I have lost weight.

I have started a journal, though I do not write in it every day/night.

Yes, this is a good thread. I need to recognise how much i am accomplishing, rather than focusing on what I have to do. Cause its overwhelming. Anyway hear goes

Returned all e mails - done
Ate healthily- done
Spoke to web guy this morning about a site - done
Teaching - some done
Included getting stuff ready for examiners.

The best bit is though. Received 2 e mail from an ex and deleted them. Am so pleased with myself.

Yesterday, was another ex's birthday and i did not contact him either.
Am trying to stay focused on keeping life simple and moving forward.

The truth is dont have the time for them anyway. They dont add quality to my life anymore, and i feel the older i get the less hassle i want.

love to all xx

I really like doing this.

To me, I think it is beginning to 'empower' me and encourage me instead of just sitting and looking at all the stuff that needs to be done! 'All in good time' that is going to be my motto! Since I am alone with no one trying to make me feel guilty about WHAT I HAVEN'T DONE...except myself now...So I don't get everything done in one day! I don't need to do everything at once.

I have put my 'WONDER WOMAN' tiara on the shelf for a while! LOL!

This is awesome! Though I most admit that being online takes lots of time but I enjoy reading what all have shared.

I have showered, journaled, and read and wrote...off to do more!
