nearly every word that comes out of my mouth is a total lie, there is no need for me to lie but I do just because... I dunno really just because.

I make up a lot of stuff about my life and people believe me.
I lie about everything sometimes I dont even realize I am lieing.
I hate it I want everyone to know the real me instead of this fake person that is all a bunch of lies.
Sure I get attention from these problems but I feel like a fake.
I want to tell my friends that it is all a lie but I know that they will leave me if I do and hate me for all this lieing.
Please help me I want to come clean, I think I am a pathological liar.
I want help and support I want my friends to know but I dont want them to help me.

Please help.
Thanks

I don't know why people lie... I think it has to do with protecting the real self.... try this with your friends instead of lieing don't say any thing... I know that there are many times that someone else's story sounds better or takes the heat off of you and you might borrow a piece here and there... Don't do it...if someone askes you about something you have already lied about tell the truth then or if you arn't ready part of the truth... if it is a real friend telll them the whole truth they will understand especially if you tell them the reason you feel you need to lie..... You know, lieing like you describe isnt anything to be ashamed of, it is an actual psycological illness.

Talk to you're doctor about this or a trusted person,
if you're friends are real friends they will understand.

Good luck

I think the fear of rejection, and need for acceptance, as well as image, or perception of image is why.

But what do you do, when the liar gets called on his tale of tales and says so I am a liar, is it like so, and what are you going to do about it, so that you can just tell another lie, or do you know that whom ever you lied to will just forgive again?

I think Molly is correct as far as why people lie. I myself had a big problem with lieing and it eventually cost me my marriage. She said she couldn't trust me anymore. I did the same thing you do. Didn't really lie about anything of any importance and before long my life was chaos because I couldn't keep track of what I had or hadn't told people about cetain things. After the divorce, I vowed to be impecable with my word. No more lieing whatsoever-but also, I couldn't do that until I went to friends and family and told them that I had lied to them many times and apologized...just to kind of start with a clean board. Whatever works for you..do it soon. It will control your life and drive people away from you and become lonely. It's not a fun place. Good luck!!
