i
thought the whole problem was my hubby's inappropriate money
management issues, but as i have read today, seems i have a problem
also. ya know, that is what i was afraid of all the time, why i
lingered so long before asking for help. have set up an appointment
with a couselor, opened my own account, bought a few things i
wanted and refused to visit my hubby in the hospital. i think i am
on my way to taking back my power.

as i
read up on codependency, i think of a poem my mom just wrote
to/about me. saying what a blessing i sm and newer discouraged and
don't talk about worries, always willing to go all the way for
family and friends, esp. when times are rough, i'm there to talk to
or talk a load off them. how i am a blessing. Then i think about
codependent behavior. sounds like me.

Hi
Suzaneseabright, codependents are some of the most wonderful poeple
you ever knew... loving, caring, trusting, Loyal... to a
fault.

the trouble is
that we don't know how to be loving, caring trusting, loyal to
ourselves.

We don't even know
what it is that we want lots of times as usually what we want is
something for someone else.

you might want to
read 'Codependent No More' by Melody Beattie (?) I think this is
her name.

If you don't deal
with it/ work to recover from it, it is a progressive issue... it
will get worse...

I find for myself
I 'settle' for not feeling good, again and again and again. I might
feel 'not good' a thousand times before I decide that maybe I might
want to do something different...

Best wishes,
watermoon

IF YOU ARE CODEPENDENT, TYPICALLY YOU:

  • Have a long history of focusing your thoughts and behavior on other people.
  • Are a "people pleaser" and will do almost anything to get the approval of others.
  • Seem very competent on the outside but on the inside feel quite needy, helpless, or perhaps nothing at all.
  • Have experienced abuse or emotional neglect as a child.
  • Are outwardly focused towards others, and know v
