Just venting ... I know it has nothing to do with the threads, but I can't BELIEVE the voters vote against a public education state proposition to improve our public schools, but in individual counties, for individual school districts, the majority voted yes on the same kind of proposition! Unfortunately, the schools can't get any money unless voters vote yes on BOTH measures! Perhaps they missed this in the fine print!! UGH! (Needed to vent ... public school teacher here.)

Ok - I'll vent too. Most teachers in my town earn more than I do in the 9 months a year they work... My daughter's school is on the verge of losing accreditation.... our town has built a new school recently, & working on new playground. School budget was in "serious danger", town voted for $1 million to go to schools. Still on verge of losing accreditation.... School & Town blame the high rate of foster families this town has for lack of State assisted funding. The elementary school now has almost monthly bomb threads/scares. This has been going on since winter began. Children over the winter were made to stand outside for two hours while the school was checked because school didn't want to release them not knowing if someone would be home for them. Parents weren't called as office staff needed to clear out too. Most families have two working parents.... if you saw or heard about the threats on the news, you could come pick up your child. Children there now have much time to make up. Can you imagine the stress these children are under? Do they feel safe? What scars will these children bear due to this? Oh, yes, I shan't forget how the school lost my 7 yr old one day too... Why? Her school had to shut due to frozen pipes. Shipped the kids to the HS @ 1 pm, made them sit there in ALL there outter wear till buses came. Where were the teachers? Don't know. Some subs were in charge. On the way to the buses (in a really huge school not familiar with) the children were lead in line file to the buses. Was someone in the rear? NO Did they use the buddy system? NO My daughter went with the wrong class & got lost. Luckily asked an adult to bring her to the office. Now, that's not so bad....BUT WHAT IF THEY HAD BEEN AWAY WHERE ELSE BESIDES THE SCHOOL!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I'm a parent & no matter what this town seems to do to help the school - IT'S NOT WORKING!

Well, the Education Proposition DID pass after all - with a 1% difference!! But, YEAH! I work in a VERY large district that needs some serious school improvements so this will hopefully supply the district with the money they need.
Juanita -- I would be frustrated too if I were in your shoes. As far as the teacher's salary - were you saying the money is focused more on that than on school improvements?
