Schwarzenegger-

My ex got laid off so I don't have medical insurance for my kids. I applied for his new plan that is supposedly in place- it's only 45 dollars a month and takes care of everything a kid could need. Adding my kids onto my insurance was gonna be 1148 a month- I just can't do that.

so I applied- it's been a nightmare for two months- them saying I needed to fax them this when I had already faxed twice, talking to a different person each time, cant' get a hold of a supervisor,do dishes and laundry while on hold, each time a different person telling me I needed to send in different information- it was just unbelievably frustrating. finally I get a letter stating that my 60 days to provide accurate information was up and that I would have to either go through the appeals process or apply again. I called the 1-800 number and was ready to just crawl through the phone line and strangle whoever was on the other end. I'm not minimizing here! I was PISSED! I had spent over a hundred dollars faxing shit over and over and over again-and kept the successful fax reciepts. Too bad- that's procedure I'm told, my 60 days to provide the information requested was up.

so I wrote all this in a letter to the governor- mostly just to be able to say "ya know what? I e-mailed the governor on this supposedly awesome plan- what else am I supposed to do- can't call him on the phone ya know?"

Told them all my problems that I'd been having.

I get an e-mail back- saying how honored he is that I would turn to him. Then links to other insurance proposals and hopes that things are resolved.

I'm like "right. things are resolved- I have no medical or dental benefits for my kids- thanks for the automated response to my rather emotional e-mail."

next day I get a letter in the mail.

You won't believe it.

My kids are covered.

Bing-bang-boom. Plan in hand.

I'm just blown away.

Just- completely- blown away.

hey, that's great free. Of course, you should have had affordable coverage to begin with and not had to bend yourself into twenty-seven different pretzels.... but still, I'm glad that the Governator (or his office) took heed to your plight and helped you out.

Hope your h finds work soon, too.

take care

I agree Kroika-

I should have had affordable insurance to begin with. That's a whole other can of worms.

No intention here of making a political statement for the governator- it's just that, well, when elected officials do something good, I think it should be recognized and so I wanted to share.

I'm just so thankful to him and his office for helping me as an individual.

And still just- blown away!

As for my ex- he don't wanna work. he's lame. he took a voluntary lay off.

Yeah- this governor is definitely different from the average politician. I dunno why- maybe kuz he can't run for president, maybe kuz politics is a hobby versus a living, I dunno.

He says some of the funniest things. California needed somebody who was "different" kuz we're quite the bunch here ya know?

I'm just so thankful right now and to anybody struggling with insurance in this state e-mail the gov and see if his office can help ya. I'm sure gonna let my teachers union know about this- the union hasn't done jack shit for us on this front but they're so happy to take my involuntary 60 bucks every month.
