Things are horribly wrong for me and my family. There isn't ever enough money anymore. Now, there isn't food left either. I am looking for someone who may be in the same boat. Have a terrific wife and kids, but am totally unable to control money. My credit is RUINED! Tried consumer credit and all the similar organizations. Bankruptcy is apparently the way to go, but I can't even get the money together to give to a lawyer. If I sound like you, please let me know. I need your help and guidance on how to recover.

Try legal aid or something similar in your area. I have been involved with Gambler's Anonymous and many there are in a similar situation. I have a meeting tonight. I'll see what I can find out. Do you have a job? It sounds like you need a plan, or maybe let someone else control the $ for a while. Anyway. I'll see what I can find out. I'm in Canada. Where are you?

Thanks for your response! I am in North Carolina. I have always had a job, that's the sad thing about it. I spent 20 years in the US Navy, and am now a Corrections Officer for the state. Money is a big proble, but I admit it is my very poor and irresponsible management of money that has contributed to this mess. Because I earn "too much money", I don't qualify for beans.

Scott h, Sorry I realized I had to go to another unrelated meeting last night but I will find out what I can, when i can. I know they have financial advisors that can set up payment plans and also you can get things like direct debit from your pay cheque so it makes the payment before you ever see the money. You can also consolidate debts into one payment. If you owe money, I'm sure the bank will help because they would definitely prefer to get their money. I assume the states would be similar to Canada. Call a few financial advisors, banks or accountants. I'm sure they can steer you in the right direction. Is your wife good with money? If so, let her handle it. What do you spend your money on?
Meanwhile, I will get back to you after I talk to some of the people who have been in similar positions.

Hi if there is any way possible don't file bankruptcy, I worked in credit counsling and it will hurt you in the long run it is better to have slow or bad credit than NO credit. Call your chamber of commerce they should be able to tell you of a consumer credit counsenling program, They will call your creditors and work out a payment plan for you but you have to be willing to work with them and it make take YEARS to get out of the hole but remember it didn't take overnight to dig the hole either. Just stick with it pay all your creditors something if only a partical payment.Medical bills charge no interest so if nothing else pay them at least $5.00 a month. good luck

scott h,
No $ is a very tough place to be.
VRJ and kec gave some good feedback. You also gave yourself some good feedback - you see your own involvement in the problem.
Along with finding a way out of the hole, it's important to find ways not to fall back into it.
New habits of saving and much less spending. The only way to save money, is to live "below your means".
There are many people who overspend for emotional reasons, and others who simply didn't manage well...can you tell us more about this part of the problem?

Hi Scott,
I'm sorry to hear that you are going through so much turmoil in your life. I will say my prayers for you. It sounds like you do make alot of money, but what do you spend it on? Do you have a large mortgage or do you spend your money carelessly? You stated, that it was part your fault in the mess. Did you go out and buy alot of expensive items? Maybe you could sell something.
I'm sorry to hear about your wife having cancer. I have been in the nursing profession as a Nurse for 20 years. Where and what type cancer does your wife have. Where is it? If she has a lump of some sort don't think the worst. If it is caught early enough, she can get treatment. There are various forms of cancer. The cancer can be beign or malignant. Either way if caught early enough can be treated. Beign, like a beign cyst is localized and does not spread. Malignant has spread and requires more treatment and is serious. Find out where and what type and I can advise you then.
