Oh Sonic, lets make it very simple in six steps, here is what love is all about. If you both have this going on, then your in love...Step 1. I CAN BE ME, 2. YOU CAN BE YOU, 3. WE CAN BE US, 4. I CAN GROW, 5. YOU CAN GROW, 6. WE CAN GROW TOGETHER. If both of you have this, your relationship is healthly. Each step has deep meaning. For instance, in step one, is meaning, don't be your partner, don't be somebody else that you are not, just be yourself. If he accepts that, then WE CAN BE US. So, in each step there is meaning that can extend into many things. Good luck.

You are best best buddies, but you are THE chick/guy s/he adores and respects above all others.

Okay, hbdude, I challenge you to make it even simpler than that.

Thanks, my scholarly friend! Means a lot to me. Not bad for someone who is really into research, huh? Must be the all the rebellious side of me after all the journal editorial review boards that get very boring afer a while (oops, don't tell anyone I said that!). I actually have some other poems that rhyme. hehe.

Dear Robert (Reference to Robert Frost)

Two roads sure did diverge in a yellow wood

And in my youthful dazed naiveté

I was reallllly sorry I could not multitask and travel both

and be one traveler.

Long I stood and looked down one
until it bent in the undergrowth:
That path whose leaves are soooooo...
Trodden Black.

I took the Road Less Traveled By
And, yes, it surely indeed has made All the Difference.

My feet are worn with nettles and spurs

and I am sorely in need of a dozen pedicures.

Fifty strapping young bucks coming to caress

cannot soothe and heal that nasty mess

I call My Poor Aching Back.

For I am a Nurse, you see...
And I am entering that delicious stage of...
Old Age
and Treachery!

Tawanda!

How DOES one know that one is in love? Well...lesseee....

When I feel "in love" I have more energy than a teenager.

I have learned in middle age, though, that it is possible to feel this way about many people and that it passes with time, especially if you do not act on it.

Love itself is not enough to "make it work out." This is where true love comes in...when you have the grace to let someone go because one or both of you needs to.

I love the old Beatles song "Friends and Lovers" it sums up my adult life. I have many...and most of them have remained friends over the years.

What if one needs a dozen pedicures and is not a nurse? I liked that. Actually, I will take the 50 young bucks careessing my aches and pains! That would be true love for sure.

True love does stand the test of time. You are so right about that one. That is why I have trouble uttering the words and am uncomfortable having them said to me unless they are said by my adorable nephews. I know they mean it.

P&L

It does sound like you are afraid of love. Which is a shame.

I think that loving involves letting yourself get hurt sometimes. It goes with the territory.

Allow yourself to make a FOOL of yourself for love sometime...and just enjoy it! Maybe it will last. Maybe it will not.

Loving for me is like a big diving trip into the ocean. You jump in when you are born and you struggle with the tides to avoid getting washed ashore. When you get it down and learn the terrain, you savor the encounters...and you know they are as ephemeral as life itself.

Devon,

I am really afraid of all the typos I make on here!

I don't like getting hurt. Better to get out before getting hurt.

P&L:

You are a regular person on here. Forget the typos. They happen. Guess what: On here, NO ONE CARES!!!

You really believe that about it being "better to get out before getting hurt?"

I personally think that that is crap. You miss out on too much and life is too short to miss out on anything, especially love...even if it doesn't last.

Love "is like a red red rose"...some Scotsman named Robert once said. Red roses are beautiful: they bud and blossom, and then they wilt and die. I have many goreous clusters of dried dead roses in my house from loves gone past. I don't regret a single one of them. I even get a kick out of seeing one after the years have gone by.

"You're still the same," is the common eulogy of our fated love.

I smile like Mona Lisa when I hear that over and over again from different people. I think it is a high compliment.
