Every monday night after my support group and night after I have worked in my wounded heart work book I get horrible nightmares. the weird thing is that they are not really about my abuse. But My husband had to wake me up several times lastnight because of me screaming NO. I dont even go to bed thinking about much of anything. Is there anyway I can stop this frm happening again? I have a hard enough time getting enough sleep with out the nightmares

This might sound silly, but when I wake up with nightmares, I pray. They go away. Pray before you go to sleep that Jesus will bind the spirit of fear, and out loud tell Satan that he will NOT defeat you. I swear, no matter how screwed up that sounds it works for me everytime. If I wake up with nightmares and i don't pray, they continue...

Those discussions must be bringing out something that is repressed in your subconscious mind. They have to be triggering something way below the surface. I know that type of thing would bring up emotional issues with me, even if at the time I'm thinking this is not affecting me. When your husband awakens you do you remember what your thoughts were? Usually you do when you are awakened from a dream or nightmare. Those sessions must be pretty deep. I know that my x wife who is very religious would always have nightmares about the devil. I never do but one time he was in one of my dreams and I told him he didn't belong there and he left. I wish I had a better answer.

Thank you very much. I often forget to pray before I go to sleep. That is a wonderful Idea. the sessions I have are very deep but often times I feel uneffected but I know that I am.

Hi RW2

Nightmares? ah, yes. Right up my alley. It's a part of healing RW, you get used to them. They're coming "loudly" right after support group kuz that's when things are getting brought up. In group, you're gonna resolve many issues, but it takes time. Nightmares, to me, have become a "wakeup call." In other words, they tell me that I'm not acknowledging something.

Your nightmare, waking up screaming "no!" - I've had this numerous times. RW, it IS about your abuse. It's abstract. During your abuse you were powerless. But now you're not. Your'e screaming no in your nightmare trying to regain power and control. When this nightmare comes to me and I awake, as I'm going back to sleep, I think to myself

"yes, I felt powerless, I wish somebody respected my right to say no but they didn't, and they should have, and I was hurt. And I'm still hurting. I hear you Ms. NO. No need to scream anymore. i hear you and I'm working on getting you heard. I need to sleep so that you get heard. No means no."

Stuff like that.

another thing I do is take somebody powerful "to bed" with me. Like Jesus. Or one of my brothers. My best friend. Superman. Sounds silly, but as I go to sleep, I think these people are with me, and are going to fight with me, and it's gonna be okay. these make for really adventurous and action-packed nightmares.

Are you falling? Let yourself hit. Once I bounced. Once I flew and it was totally awesom.

You're dying? Let yourself die. I did. It was awesome. I died numerous times that night.

You're drowning? let it go. I turned into a clam who couldn't get nemo to listen.

Are you being chased? Turn around and say "What the fuck do you want?" What was chasing me turned into a hot dog. No kidding.

You're not gonna die in your sleep. Sleep is the place to face your fears. It's safe. It's secret- you don't have to tell anybody. And, you are, in control believe it or not.

sweet dreams
