I have two teenage boys who have been watching the T.V. continously since WTC collapsed.
My concern is that my younger just asked me the other day, "mom are we going to war now"? Does that mean "I" referring to himself that he is going to be going to war? I asked him why and he said with what the kids at school have been telling him and that from what he hears and sees on T.V. has started giving him weird dreams.
I was suprised he would ask me that.
Any comments?

Ya know Cerry I don't have a clue, other than yes. We are at war, we are working against evil. We must show love and acceptance, and be prepared. What an oxymoron. I didn't realize that all of my Cuban missle crisis stuff kicked into action on 9/11 until I sat back and exhaled. I remembered all of the duck and cover drills from school days, pre earthquake safety. I remembered my mom and dad leaving me to watch sis, and bro with instructions of what to do in the event i heard the warning sirene. We lived next door to the fire department at that time in similar to Mayburry USA at the time so guess they felt safe. Its a reality that we must be aware of one more pile of poop to not step in, and guess all you can do is work with what he can acknowledge. There have been so many movies about Hitler, use the analogy.
Eliminate the immediate fear, and recognize the need for preparedness. and for Gods sake turn off the TV. I can't take it any more don't know how a child could. At least he has had some of the desensitive izing that most of the kids of today has, I think the hard part is realizing that this is not a movie.
Self reliance, and knowing this is the time to make sure mom knows where your at, and when mom says move to move. What else can we do? he will be ok, and so will you. Faith and hope right.

Thank you and I hope you are right about my son being ok.

Last night I was in bed relaxing after an exhausting day. I was just about to drift off to sleep and I was alerted by my sons screaming. He apparently had a bad dream. When I went to his aid , he was in a sweat.
When I spoke to him and asked him what the dream was about he grabbed me and told me that he was falling out of a building. He said he was on the the World Trade building and it was on fire and the building started to crumble and he was falling. He said he saw in his dream people screaming and yelling and bleeding all over the place. He broke down and cried. I had asked him not to watch the T.V earlier but he said the day it happened he saw people either jumping or falling from the building.
He is a very bright child and reads alot aswell. He talks to his buddies at school and they told him that he would be drafted into the army. He cried and told me he didn't want to die. I reasurred him he was going to be ok and spoke of one of the news cast that Mrs. Bush has addressed. I held him for an hour. What is happening here. I am scared for him. I am trying the best I can as a single mom and I understand what has happened but can't understand my sons reaction to this. I just don't understand what is happening to the world anymore. Its crazy, inocent people are being hurt and families destroyed. This just has to stop but when.
Mother with a frighten child??????
