I read some of the names on here and wonder how people chose them. What made our own Mary Poppins identify with that name and since I was here a week or two before her why wasn't I clever enough to come up with that name? Some you can easily tell like Ma Strong and StronginHim, others you can't.

I will go first. When I was a small child the lady who did my mothers hair had a Pekinese Dog named Bitsy. I adored that dog. I am not clever when it comes to picking nicknames I tried several but they were already taken. I am pretty sure that no one who knows me knows about this dog so I really am not concerned about anyone putting it together. So tell me, how did you pick yours?

I'm afraid I am even less clever than you Bitsy....

After several attempts at picking a username with no luck I was getting frustrated and happened to be sucking on a lollipop......

The rest is history.

Like Bitsy said, "StrongInHim" is a no-brainer. I'm a minister. DUH.

I am still upset that Mary Poppins thought of it first. The movie is one of my favorites!!!!

I always thought Katharine Hepburn was a strong and independent woman. She didn't worry what other people thought of her. She was her own woman.

After reading the Scott Berg book about her, "Kate" (the only biography she allowed to be published that was written by someone else) I admired her even more.

Craigco could just have easily been Camco or any other 'C' name. Twas just something to prefix the 'co' - which is obviously short for codependent.

I think Chelonia shared one time that her nickname is actually the name of a type of turtle. That's pretty cool. I would love to know how Anam Cara got his.

I wish NOW that i chose a nic that reflected another aspect of my personality. Something sparkly, or mythical, not obviously pointing to a weakness.

I chose my nic due to the sites theme, and the frame of mind i was in at the time. Being half enlightened but caught by my conditioning.

I felt cheated and blocked from my potential.

I like playing with the english language.

Mislead ( or MsLead) just came across as too "heavy".LOL

Yes Chelonia mydas is the scientific name for the green sea turtle. I have many reasons for choosing it. I knew my name would be a turtle, but choosing which one took the better part of the afternoon.

Turtles and tortoises are very significant to me because I have rescued and worked with them as well as playing a profound role in the mental protections I created in my imagination as a child.

I mentally protected the essence of who I was by giving my soul to a very strong and kind imaginary large land tortoise. She kept my soul safe in her shell, where nothing could touch it or harm it or even realize I had a soul to hurt.

I used my imagination to get through a lot of my childhood abuse. One of my favorite fantasies was to imagine myself riding on the back of a giant sea turtle to an island way off in the middle of the ocean that no one knew about. There were no people, only kind and loving animals. This imaginary island was one of the safe places in my mind where I hid so I didn't have to be there mentally when my body was abused.

In addition I've rescued land and fresh water turtles my whole life. I adopted my first box turtle when I was 8 yrs old from my babysitter who was trying to feed her flies and house her in a bucket. My turtles (and other pets) were my childhood friends and confidants. The secrets I told them kept me sane and helped me feel accepted in a very insane and unaccepting situation.

I have also assisted with beach patrols for sea turtle nests. The first nest I ever found was from a green sea turtle.

In addition to all that, Chelonia mydas is the only sea turtle that is a vegetarian as an adult so reflects my choice to also be vegetarian as an adult.

Sometimes you can find the meaning of a nick name if you google it.

Anam Cara is Gaelic for soul friend or soul mate.

I chose my name coz cinnamon has been my nickname since my very first job. I misread the first recipe they let me fix and obviously put in cinnamon instead of the other ingredient I should have. my kids would call me mamacinnamon when they were playin so i just kept it for here.

..I love the name I chose! I think I would like to be known by it officially!.I took it from serendipidy. Which means to "come across something/someone fortunate by chance not only accidentialy, but possibly while searching for something else! It's apparently is one of the hardest words in the english language to define the meaning of. I feel it's quite mystical!..Which I love all of that stuff!!...

I am routinely suprised by how I judge other people (and how others in turn judge me) based on surface appearances. I have a rich (and at times wild!) past that most people would never suspect out of someone so prim, proper and responsible on the outside. The older I get, the more I find that other "boring" people I have the happy fortune of getting to know also have rich inner lives and plans and fantasies that others would not suspect.

My nick reminds me of my potential that I can exercise at any time.

And I also like how it abbreviates if someone wanted to nickname my nickname: OBOTO. 🙂

Some of you may remember why I chose Tumbleweed. As I was traveling across country, I saw these tumbleweeds just rolling along. I thought just like me they are rolling along not attached to anything. It was a very difficult time in my life when I left my home for a year to live in Mt.
