Just when I was detailing on another thread how I have finally conquered my falling asleep hangup, I find another reason to stay awake!

Okay, so I realize what I am about disclose is not in the same vain as the intensly personal issues that have been discussed on previous threads, however, it is keeping me up tonight.

I live in the southeastern region of the US and down here bugs get so big you could put a leash on some of them and keep them for a pet. It has been raining here for days, so now all the bugs are trying to find someplace dry. I live on the second floor specifically b/c the bugs are out of control here in the summer. But just as I was dozing off earlier I saw a huge ass palmetto bug (fancy name for a huge southern style roach--UGHHHHHHHHHHH!) on my pillow next to me. I have moved the bed around shook out all the sheets and pillows, but I just can't seem to relax!

I am sorry to hear that. I know first hand how sleep deprivation makes you feel and can also make everthing else in your life seem that much worse. I do hope you get some sleep tonight (but if not since you don't seem to have a problem with bugs on steriods could come over and keep watch!? :))

Wishing you droopy eyelids and sweet dreams

cpt, I can relate! I hate roaches! So far I haven't seen any in my apt. I have been there for 4 months, knock on wood. But I do remember when I lived in the city one day a huge roach was crawling on my floor. I felt very truamatized by it. It was soo big! It ran under my bed and I was determined to hunt it down and kill it. So I crawled under my bed and found it under a box. I felt like a hunter in Africa. Fortunately, it was a very dumb bug and moved very slowly so I captured it and flushed it down the toilet. I fear seeing another one like that as long as I lived there but it only happened once. Once was enough!!

Capt1212,

I feel your pain.....I have goosebumps just reading your thread. Having said that consider yourself grateful.....if it were me that had a palmetto bug (i.e. giant roach) on my pillow.....I wouldn't be here to talk about it....I would have died of corinary failure!

Thank God I live in the north!

On the upside, if one of those suckers got on youm, you would definately wake up! SO there's really no way you could swallow one, at least!

My heart would have stopped then and there if I woke up to a giant bug on my pillow. Is there something you can do to discourage them? Traps? Poison? Boring Conversation? Good luck in your new battle!

I'm in NJ, and we just have little mosquitos and moths and stuff. I use (Garden Fresh) Raid in my room. Would this work on those big bugs you all have?

NO that would not work. I know a lot of people here use boric acid around their doors and windows, but I have two dogs and I really don't want that around for them to step in and lick off their paws. At least it has only been one so far and I insisted on a 2nd floor apt.

Jack, I was raised up north and I know the kind of misquitos you are talking about, but down here those damn things could pass for hummingbirds!

Speaking of roaches......

I went to Hawaii a couple of years ago and after leaving the airport with our rental car, we decided to take the road to Hana. Anyone who's been to Hawaii will know that the road to Hana is about a 3 hour drive (one way) on a very long, narrow and winding road. Anyway....we were driving along admiring the scenery when all of sudden.....ROACHES......IN THE RENTAL CAR!!!!! They were everywhere. I was freaking out...even my father, who is the "they're only bugs, they can't hurt ya" kind of guy was getting the heebie jeebies. By the time we got back to the airport to return this car from roach hell, I had goosebumps from the ends of my hair to the tips of my toenails.

I was so discusted that when we took the car back, I took over the conversation. I told the lady..."Uh....we had roaches in our car"....she said, "ok, we'll get you a new one". I said...."I'm not sure that you heard me correctly, I said...we had ROACHES in the car". She said...."yeh, that happens". THAT WAS IT!!!! I'm thinking....yeh, that happens.....are you crazy....shouldn't I be getting a free two week trip to Hawaii.....free hotel.....free car....free beachtowel...something!!!! THERE WERE ROACHES IN THE RENTAL CAR!!!! Nope..nothin.

Because our luggage was in the trunk of that car, I spent the rest of my trip totally freaked out that there would be roaches in my clothes. I made my father shake out everything I wore for the rest of our trip, and I had a nightmare that a roach got into my ear so from that point on, I had to sleep with ear plugs in.

So much for paradise!!!!
