I am 34 years old, and a "recovering minister". I have been hurt very deeply through my involvement in the professional ministry, and this has led to some prescription/over-the-counter drug abuse, and other problems. I have been through a good deal of counseling in the past, but I am looking for the right kind of counseling. I really need to deal with some deep issues, and not just the surface level stuff of most counseling/therapy. Any suggestions?

Friend of mine (ph.d psychologist) recently told me that the therapist does 30% of the work and you do 70%.

Key is finding someone who won't let you "get away with" the crap you want to slide by them. course then there is the problem if they start getting to close to YOU and the PROBLEM...you may back or RUN away...("that ones no good")

Ya know...I bet you didn't enter the "professional ministry" on a whim did you. You felt a "calling" "led by God" to be there?

If that is the case...as a Baptist... (very indiependent DIBLE church...:"No GROUP is gonna tell US what to do) I would suggest that you find an indiependent pastor or minister to discuss with . Not a "professional but someone who feels led to be where they are by the great one and only...not a shellaced headed...look at me type person.

Faith in God is faith in G od. to bad the "church " can be so darn stupid as a group.!!!

Heard of the Minerth Mayer clinics?

Good Luck

look for counseling within yourself. know that there are things you need to deal with and look at professional counseling as if that's additional help you can agree to.
