I've met the most wonderful bloke, he's fun, warm and very special to me. I want this relationship to work, but something is standing in the way of that. HE CANNOT STOP TALKING.

It seems trivial but I am getting so very angry I could slap him. He just does not know how to tell a brief story and will ramble on for hours and hours. I have tried hinting at his problem, but I find he responds by talking all the more.

I want this to work but not so that I feel I'm drowning in verbal garbage. How do I approach such a sensitive subject?

Some people talk like that when they are nervous and insecure, or maybe isolated. Take him to the gardens, and just make the hush sign, tell him to listen to the birds, and bees.

I understand what you're saying, because in my relationship, my significant other tells me the same thing. However, we have worked out an agreement where we talk sometimes, and just enjoy eachother's company at other times. This is what I recommend that the two of you do. That should help you two make it through this.

I did a training course last week, it was about communication and how to lead a conversation. Find something like this in your area - it's fun, and it greatly helped me understand some of my "over and over again" communication problems. There is also good reading on this topic, but most important of all: you have to make up your mind and find out what you want. This is usually the bigger part of the problem. Once you know what you want communication will join in. 🙂
