I am having a very hard time with my CD drive tray lately. Each time I put CD inside the tray and push it forward it starts within a few minutes, then it comes back and opens and thus I am so frustrated and unable to listen to my CD.

On some other days, I am have NO problem whatsover and can play the CD as soon as I slide it in the tray.

Any tips and suggestions? Does this happen with some of you? Do I need to call a mechanic? Is it a big problem that I need to call a mechanic for or a slight problem that can be sloved with...

Thanks for any help or suggestion.

Ras,

I have been having a similar problem lately. My cd tray is not reading the cd when I close it. I don't know how to fix it. Sometimes if I totally shut down my comp. it will work. I haven't tried that yet. I hope you figure it out.

Thanks Jewel for your response! I've tried that 2 times today - to reboot my PC but to no avail. Did it work with you? Do you think we need to call a mechanic for such a problem?

If it happens with all CD's (and not only with scratched ones), see if you can buy a CD head cleaner from bestbuy or Radioshack. If that doesnt solve it, buy a new CD drive, they're cheap from ebay, maybe $30 etc

Thanks Guest for your response. In fact, my CD drive tray seems to be moody or have a mind of its own. Sometimes it is fabulous and runs so smoothy; and some other times it is total mess. When this happens, it happens with ALL my CD. In fact, all of them are new.

So I will consider the 1st option which is buying CD head cleaner.
