Instead of going to a therapists office, has anyone tried counseling on the phone?

I have. When it comes to counseling one should use which ever method one feels comfortable with. My therapist used to allow me to call and speak to him over the phone.

Its a good idea to dip a toe in the water by doing phone counselling...

I used to be a phone counsellor myself...the only thing I'll say is, if you are in need of intensive therapy, then face to face with a qualified therapist is best. I'm not a trained counsellor (yet) so over here, they use trainee therapists and phone counsellors as its not an intensive session....its certainly a great place to start though and will help you...but certainly if you have a need to see a "real" therapist then its not a solution...just a step in the right direction.

dre29,

I did counseling over the phone but only because the trip to see my therapist was getting expensive, I had moved.

As revelation said, face to face is best, I tended to get more out of the sessions being there.

I have "phone sessions" with my therapist when I can not make it into the office. It definately is a good idea, especially when you are "in need" of therapuetic advice.
