Has anyone read the book, or watched the movie called 'Thumbsucker'?

I have not read the book, but I did watch the movie and was surprised to find out that it is a true story.

For those who don't know, it is an autobiographical account of a young teen's struggles with ADHD, his thumbsucking, and his subsequent medication and treatment.

It seemed as though he had been undiagnosed until he was a teenager. Meds were suggested, and even though his parents were against it, he wanted the pills. After he started them, he changed very noticeably.

He went from being depressed, sullen, non-productive, unhygienic and pissed-off, to being a very successful student and top debater!

I posted another thread awhile ago asking for success stories, and basically this is the reason why. He seemed to do a 180 after he started taking his meds, and I've never met anyone yet in my life, who was so positively affected by their meds. If this is possible for me, I'd love to find out.

If you've seen this movie, or read the book, I'd like to talk about it, and your personal thoughts and experiences.

Thanks for any input!

Hi Dannie,

I haven't read or watched Thumbsucker but I just went to Amazon and read the synopsis. It looks interesting and I will look for it at the video store next time I go.

Were there any topics in particular you wanted to talk about from the movie. Based on the info on Amazon, I can relate to some of the topics the movie explores. Perhaps we could start a more general conversation that even those who may not know the particular story could still participate in the overall discussion of the topics it covers.

Yes, sign me up for the exchange of dialogue.
Start it up, as I haven't been able to review the book as of yet.
