Actually..Greenland was named that because when it was first settled by the Vikings it was quite green.. The climates eventually shifted though, when the world went through a "mini Ice-Age"
Iceland was accidentally discovered during winter and was first called "Snowland"... I'm guessing it was almost completely white at the time.. Another sailor discovered it was an Island and renamed it to Iceland. (Island:Iceland.. nice huh?) Again, climates shifted.
At least that is my understanding...
