BEEN WORKING ON ISSUES FOR SOME YEARS AND HAVE FINALLY OBTAINED MY FREEDOM AS THE RESULT OF A QUESTION IN THE BOOK: EMBRACING YOUR INNER CRITIC BY HAL STONE: WHO DO YOU OVERVALUE & LOOK UP TO? As obvious anf simple as this might seem for a seasoned recovering Codepent, my mind flashed me back for the millionth time to my older brother and within an instant, I knew who, what and why I've lived my whole life as a dependent victim!! Simultaneously, I decided for keeps to stop being my brother and families subordinant one-down helpless dependent victim and take back my power and long lost freedom. It's a decsion I could have made years ago if only I'd realized the actual nature of my servitude and dependence on their approval, permissions, acceptance, help and or freedom from their asaults and punishments and threatening control. It sucks to be a victim (hostage)in one's own family and embarrasing to still be that long after one has left those menacing tyrants. Of course I found lots of tyrants outside of and beyond my family to include nearly everyone I have ever known in these 62 years. Anyone recognize this condition(ing)?? As a male, I was pretty much raised like a girl in our culture. Now that I realize the exact nature of what happened to me, I tell myself as often as possible that I am free and strong - the dead opposite of my childhood conditioning and family script. Boy it's nice tho not easy to have that new message and belief. I'm committed to it even if it takes a lot of work to install the new belief and overturn the old programming. Free and strong/responsible is a new way for me to face my inner and outer tyrants

Jimmer,

Good for you! I applaud the commitment and determination it took for you to find your new found freedom. You have given me hope and inspiration that no matter what age or how long we have been in bondage to unhealthy thinking...freedom is at hand and all we need to do is set our minds on it.

Thank you.
