Our church is interested in starting a support group, and so I've been looking into Celebrate Recovery, which is a Christian 12-step program. I bought the first workbook and hoping I'm not infringing on any copyright laws, I thought I'd offer up the first question here for discussion:

Step 1 is: We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable. What areas of your life do you have power (control) over? Be specific.

jas...awesome!!!
Could be the same that we use at my church...if so, be prepared for healing...please do nto quit, go all the way through, and I guarantee, you will be changed as well as your life. But it takes a while to go through. AND!!! if you ever feel like it is too hard, etc...put a thread out to me, so I can help, ok? I am a facilitator for this, and just graduated in Oct, 2004. Ours is called the Journey.

And keep me posted on the positive as well...you are in for a great surprise...what about hubby, will he go?

I don't think Mark will go, but that's okay. I'm really doing this for me and for God. Thanks for your encouragement. Don't you LOVE it when God speaks to you directly and gives you confirmation? We just changed the name of our church. The new name is... {drum roll, please}

AWESOME, how exciting. And very positive you are doing this for yourself. There are women in my group whose marriages changed for the better becasue they went....but doing it for you is the best way to go, good for you!!

Yes I do love it when God does that...many doors opened for me as well as my eyes. Old behavior disappears, new ones take its place.
Will keep you in prayer as you go through this!!

Jastypes:

Congrats and Good For You!!

I feel the Celebrate Recovery program is wonderful. They had tried to start one here, but it just wasn't the right time. I live in a small town, less than 1,000, and folks won't come to a program like that coz everyone knows everyone and they are afraid of gossip or judgment or that their spouse will find out they have been here. One day will be the right time for our church.

You have come such a long way. I am so happy to know you. Isn't just the most, best, (can't find the right word) when God speaks to you or uses you directly. How totally wonderful.

Don't give up. You're doin fantaastic.
