How'd the turkey go Ang? I did a ton of cooking yesterday only to get my Christmas dinner postponed till Saturday because of a winter blizzard, so much snow all day long, no let up at all, this has never happened before that I can remember.
So, spent the day with husband and dog and a short visit with one son and family and then the other stopped by, so good to see them both, but didn't feel like Christmas, that's for sure. Didn't see my mom today and that's a first...talked to everyone who was supposed to come though, that was good. Damn White Christmas!! I have 10 lbs of scalloped potatoes and 8 lbs of Hungarian Sausage and tons of appetizers ready to go in the fridge...ahhhh, Mother Nature....
and I'm wondering if GL is stranded in Pennsylvania...yipes..

Hope all had a fine holiday...

Buenos Noches (sp?) amigos.......

Well what can I say! The turkey got cooked and then truned off and left in the oven so I could make my boy happpy and do the father thing and take him Duck hunting. He did get his duck and then a half ass thrown together Christmas meal later on. I know one thing for sure, my son will never remember me for my cooking but he might remember me for doing things like taking him hunting on Christmas. I don't know what I am going to do with all that turkey. I guess I should give Martha S an e-mail and ask...lol

Alena we also had a white Christmas here which we don't see very often. Not as much as you all but it was alot for us. So happy to hear your boys gave you a visit.

Yes it's buenas noches Lisset but aint nothing but a thang chica.

lisset, does "buenos" mean something else? Like a curse word or something? šŸ™‚ Just checking, maybe I should be careful how I throw around my Spanish! haha...

Angie, you're son is going to remember you as his beautiful mom AND dad, it's all he knows, right? So, it's just right for him, ...you don't lack in either department. Hmmm, let's see, when I was growing up, did any of the mom's take their kids duck hunting???.........uh NO....lol...but then I grew up in Cleveland and it was illegal to shoot the pigeons and we didn't see many ducks! šŸ™‚
And hmmmm, did June Cleaver take the Beav duck hunting? Unless I missed the episode..... my kids will remember me for my cooking, and it wont be for what you think...like the time I forgot to put the pepperoni in the pepperoni bread....or the beef barley stew that ended up one HUGE barley in a pot because I used too much barley..lol....whatever.. šŸ™‚

Jess, "mice pies"? Can you expand on that??

no. buena its like good. but saying something like this song is good. esta cancion esta buena. (when u like the song) bueno is good too, sometimes in spanish is used like saying "well....." (like a question or like an answer and ur trying to think of the rest of the answer) bue some people instead of saying hola or hello on the phone they say "bueno?" i guess its like an expression of hello to them. but i dont talk like that. its complicated. so juts trust me, its buenas noches. ahh-but to say good morning its buenos dias. hahaha. šŸ˜‰ tricky i know.

Alena...Yeah I had a great Chrissy...Everyone was chipper. BF controlled his "I don't want to see ANYONE on Christmas" urges and came to my Mum's for breaky. My Mum was happy playing Father Christmas and handing out pressies to everyone and welcomed my bf by giving him as many presents as my bros and I (which made BF feel like a part of the family and not like he was intruding on our Christmas). Both my bros got over their "I'm not sure if we like Squeezles having a bf" thing and were polite and friendly and didn't act like BF was 'crashing' their Christmas. Had lunch with Dad and Grandma who was happy to see both my bros for the first time since about last Christmas (she's 86 and still as mentally alert as ever; just her body's letting her down a bit). She was temporarily cross that everyone ignored her pleas to not buy her pressies this year (because she can't get out to the shops to reciprocate presents), but was still happy to have a few gifts to unwrap. BF's family was still home when I got home for lunch, so I gave BF's Mum her present...a tapestry I'd been working on for about two months (and was up till 1.30am on Chrissy finishing amidst a flurry of swearing). She was pretty stoked and I think I've now been elevated to 'future daughter-in-law' of the year. BF's father gave us a milkshake maker!! Cwor!! I'm going to be living off milkshakes for the rest of my life!! And I had 2 complete turkey dinners in one day (Dad and Mum both try to make their meals the 'whole' thing) and we still have half a turkey roll left in the fridge from BF's familys Chrissy dinner (and BTW did I mention I LIVE for turkey!?) so I'm in complete heaven!!

How was yours?

PS Mince pies...aren't actually made from mince (as in mince meat), they are made from a fruit mixture. I believe they originated in Britain (which is where most of Australia's customs come from) where they were in fact made from a combination of fruit and mince meat. However, as meat became more of a luxury item in Britain, the mince itself was dropped, but the name was still maintained. They are a bit of traditional Chrissy goodie here.

Squeezles, nice to hear everything went well with you and bf and family..and you finally finished the gift for bf's mother..that was a race wasn't it?? lol...

Because of the snowstorm, we had to postpone our Christmas with our extended family. They were just coming from too far away and we all felt it wasn't worth getting in any accidents. This was the first time that's ever happened. I was pretty disappointed, did so much preparation for it, only to call it off at 10 am yesterday morning..but it was the right thing to do, it snowed alllll day and piled up, they were warning everyone to stay off the roads if it wasn't an emergency. So, my boys came over to visit it was so weird, wasn't like any Christmas we've ever had before. We had exchanged gifts with boys and their s.o's last Sunday, this year was just all messed up. But it's okay, this way when we do it Saturday, nobody has to rush off to get to someone else's house..
gotta figure it happened for a reason.
It was "peaceful".

Alena...Ahh sorry to hear that Christmas didn't go all as planned, but at least you still have a chance to celebrate this Saturday. I hope it all goes well then! Over here we don't have to contend with snow...we just have to avoid getting sunburnt and passing out with heat stroke!! *L*. Didn't really feel like Chrissy here either. Didn't have a tree or decorations up because we couldn't afford them and it seemed a bit of a luxury item given our current financial status. Chrissy sales start today so I'm itching for bf to finish work early (he's promised me within the next 30 mins) so we can rush off and try and grab some discounted Chrissy trees, cards etc for next year.

*g* Yeah I got it finished...my French knots left a lot to be desired though! Still haven't figured out how to do those little buggers properly *L* I skipped out on about 30 of them because I felt that the 20 I'd done had completely ruined it and I was on the verge of throwing a temper tantrum (and I was stressing poor old bf out because I kept swearing)!!

Lisset...my BF and I are at the stage where we give most of our presents as a couple (althoughe he pays for the presents for his family and I pay for the presents for my family), but I see his family almost as much as mine so I think of them as my family too and so want to give them something for Christmas as well. Just as you know what to give your own family because you know them so well, as you get to know your partner's family/personality you'll start to know their interests too. If not, chocolates are relatively 'safe' presents.

Crikey! And I think that's enough of sounding like Martha Stewart for one day...

Hola. If I remember any of my spanish from high school, the difference is in the noun its modifying. All nouns are either masculine or feminine. If its masculine then the adjectives end in "o" or "os" but feminine nouns call for an "a" or an "as."

Then again I slept through most of high school so I might have dreamt the whole thing.

Well Jess, thanks for clearing that up šŸ™‚

I figured it was something like that, but either way, I've never had any.
But they sound good! My grandparents came from Hungary, and the others from Ireland and Portugal....no mince pies there I think.

squeezles, i would give our gift like that too, as a couple, many of my cousins, already two, got married and they give their gifts as a couple since their marriage. YEP, my dads side of the family mainly gave that to us. boxes of chocolate.

silence, thats what i said!!!? šŸ™ its a shame not many people on here pay attention to me. well u know what? thats ok. not many people pay attention to me in real life anyways (outside of internet)

angie, yes! but dont ever say that to a mexican person, its really bad. trust me. no one wants to be call that.

lisset
My co-workers are about 90% mexican and I don't have a problem with them calling me a pendeja and they don't have a problem with me calling them pendojos. If the shoe fits wear it and we don't care what language it's in. It's just not a big deal with us, Black, white or brown.
