Are you afraid that something you have worked so hard for is going to be destroyed? Try to think how you would feel if you were in a real situation of preparing for a tornado, what would you be doing? And how would you feel if you were able to save what you had worked so hard for.."I always wake up before complete destruction"...another interpretation could be also that you do not give yourself enough credit for being who you are...you see your world being destroyed, but you are stong enough not to let it fall?
I am not a dream interpreter, but just some ideas to think about maybe.

I dream about tornados all the time. Act of God. Force of Nature. Unstoppable, impersonal, unpredictable. Magical.

Anxiety about something beyond your control?

Anymore, I think of dream tornadoes--kind of like dream snakes--a symbol for kundalini energy, life-force, sexual energy. Can be destructive or transformational.

In my dreams I am trying to stay safe, but usually also trying to get a good a view as I can.

I think we each need to interpret our own dreams OURSELVES.. What does the tornado mean for YOU in the dream?

When I was soon to come up against one of the most devastating times of my whole life, I was told to think of a tornado and describe it.

I was then told that I was in the middle, and even though there was devastation around me, to remember that I was in the eye of the storm, where all would be well, and I was safe.

In the very awful times that did come only a few months later I didn't always remember the advice and went through a really dreadful time.

Now, one the other side, and with the devastated life behind me, I see that I really was in the middle of it, and came out stronger than ever.

What you need to ask yourself, I think, is what does a tornado mean to YOU. Describe it.... what do you know about it..... what else reminds you about tornados. Write it down and then read it back.

Since it came from your sub-conscious mind, the meaning of the tornado dreams must be known to you and is being shown to you to give you a message. When these dreams repeat they are more improtant.... like, 'try again... this is somehow important'.

It could be as simple as you are always in a rush and do not see the destruction that may result. Or "There's no place like home".

So what do tornados mean to you?

OMG, I saw the title and had to jump in.

I have recurrent dreams about tornadoes. I and whomever (different people) am in a basement w/ windows and I watch them go by. Always clusters of tornadoes from 3 to 12. When they are gone we go outside and everything is destroyed except the place we were in. It is unharmed.

I have wanted to know what they meant for years. Seems when they come it'll be for a period of time, days, and then they are gone for awhile again.

I have looked at those dream interpreting sites and they want money. Anybody have any clues?

For me maybe tornados because I enjoy taking risks. Since I was a child, I have enjoyed physical risks--sky diving, rock climbing, taking chances.... and maybe the tornados signify something exciting to me.

worrieddad, perhaps there is somethign sexual about this, never considered it. the energy, the unstoppable force... like having sex-right? one of my other threads was about sexual drive.

In most of my "danger" dreams it's about me facing the danger and rescuing people.

gotta think more... thanks for feedback.

Maybe some of this is about not allowing the stroms of life, adverse circumstances rule, but rather move through it, or being anchored, knowing in your heart you will be protected or safe when everyone else may be trying to reek havoc, or situations around you seem to be out of control. Mama, being at home, in your heart, maybe ask what that means to you. Remember Jesus & the storm and Peter walking on water...
This is all very interesting.

I have had several dreams about tornadoes. Very vivid. Each time we, usually my daughter, my only child, and I are running for safety. Each time someone provides shelter or the dream ends just before the end is imminent. I have been close to where tornadoes touched down (trees falling down around me)4 times in my life. They are awesome. Just before they hit everything is very very still. Not even insects are moving. It is very eerie, like everything just stopped and died and it is uncommonly dark. Then whamm, all hell breaks loose. After it is gone the skies are clear, the animals, birds and insects are very enlivened and there is an abundance of life's activity. Yes it is transformational. I don't know what they mean in dreams really and I would love to hear more about it.

Curly, Gee this reminds me of my childhood!!! ha! Living with an alcoholic father whom I loved dearly, when he didn't drink all was fine, serene, quiet, when he did, all hell broke loose!! I think we learn patterns about how to deal with stress, or trust. Maybe tornadoes signify these things, and how those things are dealt with now. Who knows, but it's interesting.

Mama,
It would be good to look at the other symbols in your dream. Being in a basement. The house represents 'you'. The front of the house is what you show to the outside world, the back is what you might want to keep hidden. The attick, highest part, is your spirituality, and the centre protion of the house is your heart, the way you live. The basement.... your subconscious and perhaps unconcious minds.

You say that you are looking out of windows from the basement so you see what is happening on the surface of your life. Everything is devastated.... do you have to keep trying to rebuilding your life! Is it hard to know when to start and if there will be more devastation coming?

This dream stuff is so interesting. And so important for our emotional lives. We have our own therapists inside our heads!

Ladyvirgo,

Thanks for the help. Do you interpret dreams? If so, could you go deeper into the meaning?

I have dreams about tornados all the time! I actually just had one a few days ago. In my dreams I am very close to the tornados. (There are always several) And I am scared, but excited at the same time. In my dreams though, I never see any destruction... They run their course, like they are supposed to, and it is beautiful... Then they die down. Then I wake up, or move on to the next dream.

My last couple dreams about them they have happened in rapid succession: As in one would just be dying down, and another one would form and whirl around in a field and comes closer towards me. I always see rows of them too. They are everywhere I look on the horizon. Some done, some in process, and some just beginning.

I think it's kinda cool! =) I always have freaky dreams though. So this is a welcome escape. It's not scary to me at all.

Artist, This is MY personal view on dreams: I do not believe that dreams tell us what is going to happen to us (i.e. You will meet a man, something new is about to take place, a death will occur, etc.) I think dreams are our bodies’ way of dealing with the things (emotions, and whatever else) that we don’t even realize that we have! It’s like our brain’s way of ‘defragmenting’. Putting everything in it’s place, and trying to make sense of things. We need to dream for our emotional and physical well being. (Even if we do not remember our dreams) So when I look for dream interpretations, I do not look for the ‘future telling’ ones, but rather the ones that say what certain things may or may not symbolize.

Example: I read that if you have a dream and you notice something in color in your dream when everything else is not, or for some reason something stands out to you, that has much significance. I also read that in dreams the people we dream about are not always who they are. We as humans need to put ‘place holders’ on the people in our dreams. So, when I dream about someone else that could actually be me.

I have also awoken from dreams and felt guilty and dirty. Has this ever happened to anyone?

I agree with Sweet Amanda, that is what I have been taught and understood by dreams.... Also that they represent us as well as diestresses we are dealing with. Perhaps we can't face them straight on, so we are shown symbols of them, sometimes to soften what we need to address in our waking lives. And sometimes we even wort out things in our dreams so that they don't have to come down to physicality for us to deal with there.

I've worked on dreams for a long time and there seems to be much reward in doing so.

Mama and who-ever else is interested - your dreams are very personal to you. As you've seen on this thread, so many are talking about tornados but they feel differently about them. Some are frightened and some like them.

To work out your dream you need to try and discover as much as you can about what that particular symbol means to you, personally.

eg. A snake for some is a phalic symbol.
If you've studied esoteric subjects you will have learned that the serpent is a symbol of wisdom, and to bitten by one on your heal is to become a Wounded Healer. Many of our greatest healers in the myths and legends have a limp.

In Egyptian lore the ureus (cobra on the head of the pharoah) is a symbol of wisdom, and is meant to be the kundalini energy raised from the base of the spine.

I shouldn't go on too long.... but do you see what I mean.

So what does the tornado mean to you? Its shape, its movement, its noise, its trail, its consequences, its place in stories you know, its histprocal signifcance in your part of the world, what is it made of, where does it come from, how is it formed......when you think of it you think of a?? would you get swept up in it? Where would you go? Who is with you? Why? What must you do for them.

Play with it.

Isn't it interesting how many people on this site dream of tornados? - and I've never heard of anyone who's dreamed of them - but I've never lived in an area that has severe tornados.

What do people think of that?

I had one recurring dream where rolling dark clouds were moving across what looked like the earth. My son and I were under a tree and the clouds came and engulfed him but not me. It was less than a week and he decided to move to his dad's (to put it in short form). I did understand what that one meant or i felt it meant before he left.

But the tornadoes. I don't think I feel fear or anything really. We are all calm in the basement. The tornado dreams confuses the heck outta me.

So, mama,
you are all calm in the basement? You are wisely pretecting yourself, and you watch what is happening, the devastation is 'out there' and not touching you of those around you. (Your personas - mother - friend etc). So would you say that you know you can weather the storm?

I can say I have weathered all the storms that have come at me in my lifetime and I believe there have been more than most have to deal w/. But, I know that I would never had weathered them as I did w/o God being in control. I put my faith in God and he always brings me thru to the other side. That is what I believe.

Hi Mamma,
It sounds as if you've been put to the test many times. And you say that you put your faith in God. Would you say that a tornado is an acot of God?
Is this a way of saying that you are safe with God?

Ok - what about a dream about tornados, when the tornado is approaching, you seeit on the horizon, then closer.... you find the storm shelter, but it has a lock on the door!!! You fumble for the key and look down to your key ring which has two hundred keys on it.... you just know which key it is, but can't find it. It's the smallest key, you remember! You keep fummbling for it as the tornado is getting closer and closer... finally you get it in your fingers and try to put it in the lock... but the lock keeps shrinking smaller an smaller... it won't accept the key now because it is too small!!! Yet the wind is really picking up...

and then I wake up. what the heck does this MEAN?

It means you feel like there is some kind of stressor closing in on you. It may mean that you are feeling "trapped" or "forced" into dealing with something you are afraid to deal with.

One question--During your waking time, are you finding that you are having intrusive thoughts about something upsetting, then having to quickly stuff them back down? If so, then your subconscious is saying it's time to face whatever it is, but on some level it feels threatening to you.

I like what LV wrote about being in the "eye" of the storm. You can see what's happening around you, and remain safe.

I, too, have a recurring dream about tornados, but I'm never scared in my dreams of them. I just stand there, watching it approach, feeling excited and in awe. Maybe for me, the "chaos" of my day to day life is something I find exciting...

Love,

Ren'ai

Interesting that so many of "us" dream of tornadoes. In one dream we got into an underground cellar, flush to the field, with a woman and a man and their baby. The torando comes right over the door and starts to suck up the actual cellar itself, walls, floor and all. And then I wake up. In actuality, a nice woman asked my 15-year-old daughter to look after their child when the child was only 3 months. My daughter looked after the the child until she left for college. She still goes to their house whenever she is in town. The child is 9 now. The woman has been like a Mom and because my life was so out of control at times, this has been a blessing to me. They gave her emotional shelter. Thanks for everyone sharing about these dreams. I never heard of anyone before who dreamed of tornadoes. I mentioned it to a few people and they thought it was odd that I dreamed of them.

artist, I think it means you have the key in your possession, several in fact to open the door to healing, or waht ever you want to do. The tornado is out there but it is not harming you...you see trouble everywhere, but you HAVE teh safeness, you HAVE the key, but guess what kiddo...it is easier for you to stand and around and say, HELP!! I think you have what it takes to do what you need to do. But like so many of us, including me, we don't! We just can't beleive that we would be right about something, or that we can trust our own answers for ourselves.

ok, everyone a dream that I had...but it was not about tornadoes.
I was pregnant, in labor, in a large room with absolutely nothing on the walls. My ex husband was at my side, but turned away, facing the only door in the room that was ajar, and darkness on the other side. Finally I fell asleep whil in labor. When I woke up, my child had been born while I was asleep and was brought to me. I remember distrusting the Dr's. and the fact that my child had been born while I was sleeping (in real life all 3 of my children were born naturally, no drugs, so to be asleep during childbirth is not my thing) I thought the Dr's were hiding domething from me in regard to the health of the child. I asked many questions but was assured the baby was ok. I remember taking the baby home with me and thinking, to myself, that only time would tell if anything was wrong with this perfectly beautiful baby!

Any interpretations for this please?

LadyVirgo,

Yes, I would say that tornadoes are an act of God in that he put weather into motion in the day of Noah and the flood in Genesis chapter 6.

Yes, I do feel I am safe with God. o doubts.

Hi mama! Everytime I read one of your threads, it comes across how much you love God...but more so, how steady He is in your life. You never seem to waver from that. It is a testimony to your faith...so thank you for that!
