Our druggie neighbor had them and she was 3 apartments down and I found one today. I am so freaked out. Why does this have to happen to me. Does anyone know how to get rid of them.

First of all contact the land lord it is their responsibility to spray all apartments at once and at a regular basis because the live in the common walls. If that doesnt work call the Health Department Vector control. Sometimes roaches come home in grocery bags, or moving boxes.

Hi RW!!!

Oh, boy, do we know about roaches here in Hawaii. A HUGE problem.

Destiny's right. Landlord's problem. Be proactive. Call and tell them to get a reputable company to spray. Don't let them use "jel" or anything else (traps, Combat).

If they start to nest, you will really need fumigation. Trust me, been there, done that and bought the tee shirt. My neighbors are filthy and provided me with the gift of infestation. I fought it for most of the year til Orkin came in and did the trick.

You can Google roaches on the internet and find out lots more than you'll ever want to know! There are also useful tips to make your environment a lot less roach-friendly. Good grief, what a hassle, huh?

yuck, my sister had this problem, same type of situation, druggie neighbors down the street, they were in the walls of the apartment so when my sister moved in they got in her stuff.

She finally had to move because the neighbors were so nasty and the land lord didnt do anything about it, calling the health department would have been a good idea.. we didnt think of that... if the land lord wont spray call the health department like Destinystar suggested, that would have been a lot easier than moving.

Roaches are pretty difficult to avoid in large apartment buildings (in NYC anyway). If they are in the walls, then you can be the cleanest person in the world, and you will still have them. I had to move from my last apartment because it had gotten so bad.

The management did spray but unless they sprayed every single apartment, it was nearly impossible to completely get rid of them. I hired my own exterminator and that helped cut down the population but did not eliminate the problem. I also put boric acid in key locations and that supposedly kills many as they track it back to the nests where they eventually die.

SO my suggestion is to contact management (as someone suggested). Possibly ,it is just a minor problem and you can get rid of it fairly quickly. In terms of what an individual can do, I was super careful about food being left out and never had any thing whatsoever on the counters. A monthly exterminator will help too. Hopefully, there is not severe infestation where you are. I still have nightmares about those days (and it was fifteen years ago).

Good luck.
