I am looking to understand various cultural differences that may cause students to be misunderstood in the classroom or that make individuals from diverse backgrounds uncomfortable in the American Education system. If you have experienced something such as this or know of various customs a teacher should be aware of to teach diverse students, your input would be greatly valued.

The way that Native Americans learn and experss themselves in very different from the Western way. this is especially true with the Inuit tribe in Alaska. Most Native American children learn to not make eye contact with elders out of respect (this can either infuriate or frustrate western teachers). Also, they tend to be very quiet, because culturally they learn by watching and listening to the adults. This can frustrate Americna teachers trying to ask questions to elicit responses.

Also, Asian children tend to be very similar, quiet, learning by observation, and respectful.
