I have been reading a lot of the messages posted and in most all of them it appears that everyone has gone thru some kind of counseling or is currently on medication. I have been having some problems where it appears that maybe counseling would help. It kind of scares me because it sounds as though a lot of you have not really been helped by going to counseling or thru medication. I have a lot of medical problems which have been getting worse and causing me to "break down" at times more and more. I am afraid that sooner or later someone is going to push me enough to either break down in front of everyone or take it out on someone else. (I would prefer to keep it together). But to tell you honestly, after reading about some of the problems and solutions that some of you go thru, it scares me enough to not try. I have been trying self help methods which has reduced my stress somewhat, but not enough to be the kind of person I would like to be. Am I reading you all wrong or am I not justified in feeling this way (scared)?

Crash, I think the reason why so many of our posts seem so drab is because we ARE in the process of being helped. Counseling can be a very difficult thing to do. But taking that initial step into getting yourself help is the first step to recovery. Counseling is not a quick fix to your problems and takes a lot of hard work on your part and of course, time. Of course you are going to feel scared at first, but let me tell you, it's probably the best thing you can do for yourself. Take that first step. Do it! You will feel better even if you have to feel worse first. Do you know what I'm trying to say??? Sometimes when I go to counseling, I feel worse afterward, but it is a necessary step to feeling better in the end. I hope you make the right decision and good luck!

Crash, counseling can work in your favor if you give it a chance. From what I read in you thread, I can see where a counselor can start right away on you . By the way you wrote for advise, one can see that you seem to have outmoded,self-limiting mind-sets.When you think immediate ways why something will not work with out giving it a chance to see if it will work, you are only defeating your-self.A good counselor will work WITH you to do something to change it. Like Cloud states, it will be difficult to be truthful to yourself and to a total stranger. You have taken a good step forward by asking for help. Keep going forward and give the process a chance to work. good luck.

counsh336 - I was not trying to say that counseling does not work (especially since I have never tryed it). I was just making an observation where I have noticed people have talked about going to counselin for years and being on this drug and that drug (and a lot of them stating they don't like the effects of the drugs). I currently am on a lot of medications for asthma and allergies (and other health problems) so I know that most people would opt to not take drugs if they don't have to. It just seems that these people who have been doing it for such a long time don't seem to be getting anywhere. Maybe part of this is due to the fact that they cannot post everything that has happened to them on the message boards, I was just trying to get a feel about counseling and whether I want to take that step.
