Hello everyone:

I have been working in the mental health field for almost two years in the south. I have more experience than what I can offer for my current job.I have more experience in the human services field beyond 7 years. I do not make good money with my current employer.

I am thinking about moving to the east coast (currently living in the south), so I can have more varities in my life such as social gatherings, art and food cultures, and night life activities. I need something more exciting in my life, so I also want to meet new people leading to a right person that I can spend time with in my life.

I am in my 30s. In south, it is pretty slow around here. I have not been in a relationship over 6 years. My timing is running out of time before it is too late.

I found a few job openings in the east coast. I am concerned about the ecomony if it is a good idea to changing a job and relocating during recession. What do you think?

Any suggestions and/or feedback are welcome!

Silent Jaguar, I would encourage you to move only after you've secured a job. I know that the medical field is one where there are still many openings. Also, remember that living expenses are also higher up north. All the best!!

hi silent jag,
if you have found some openings and got responses, maybe take the leap.

i was laid off from my job last year and finally found a new one. i took a pay cut, but have a job! it is very, very competitive out there. i don't know about the mental health field, so can't say if it'll be plentiful with jobs. a friend of mine works in a hospital as an xray tech, and I know there is a freeze right now with hiring nurses! that is unusual, and this is the NY tri-state area.

it doesn't sound like have many ties stopping you from making the move. me personally, i would try to secure a position first before changing, although it may be difficult since you are so far. see what you can do... go for it.

fantas is right about the cost of living, it is pricey around here. good luck to u!

Slient..yes, first check out the housing situation, the jobs in the east coast, and land one first b4 moving there...that way you'll be all set. And the cost of living.

Were you thinking of NY, NJ or PA area to settle in, if you don't mind me asking?

Think things over for a month or two, its a big step, do the pluses and minuses and see where you come in at.

Either way, its a big leap, you sound focused and I wish you the best!

I found some opening jobs in Washington, DC and they have unlimited human services. I have BS degree in human services. Living in the city will have many benefits for me to find the right career.

If I decide to take the job in D.C., so I can live in Maryland (close to DC) to save hundreds of dollars on rent.
