While my boyfriend and I lived together we loved spending time with each other and cared about each other's happiness a great deal. If he hurt I always felt his pain and wanted to help him and vice versa. We both have few friends so most of our time was spent with each. Each of our future plans included the other. Recently his parents accussed us of being co-dependent. I am confused as to what they mean. I thought it was natural when two people are in love that they want to spend their time together. I still hung out with my friends it's just I liked hanging out with my boyfriend more. Help. What are the signs of codependency? Where is the line between a healthy relationship and an unhelathy one. i am willing to give more details if what I provided isn't enough to answer my question of if we sound codependent. i just hope someone will help me understand this better. Thanks.

Are you happy? Some of the greatest relationships I've seen would be labeled codependent by textbook definitions, but the key is, both are codependent, neither feels smothered or taken advantage of. If you are happy and your boyfriend is happy, well... what's the problem? *grin*

Dont' know. I always thought codependence was when you didnt' know what you were feeling and depended on the other unit to cause feelings or reactions in you. Then you know., does that make sense?

I thought codependency is when you lose yourself and your own welfare to make the other person happy, to solve their problems and that in turn will make you feel more in control and needed and secure.
