Hey,
I was readin' the earlier posts and I've definitely not been into the holiday thing either. Generally by now I would've decorated my house inside and out and now I don't even care. I have actually been dealing with issues now and have been more agitated and distracted in general. I've actually spent some more time (and $) working out my issues this week and do feel a tad better 2day compared with Sun. when I was in a major funk. However, I have 2 serious (ok, NOT) issues to deal with concerning this thread:
1) I'm allergic to peanut butter. 🙂
2) I was really into the big hair thing in the 80's. 🙂
OK, I'll quit my sarcasm alreadly. 🙂
As far as religion goes, I was raised Protestant but have a history of Catholic, Protestant and Jewish and when I was little I only thought being Christian and Jewish were the only 2 religions-boy was I stupid. I have since learned much more about the Islamic and Buddhist religions/cultures. I don't understand the Mormon thing as well, but respect it. I started to date a guy who had been a "Jehovah's Witness" and was really concerned about how that might affect our relationship (maybe due to my ignorance).
This year is so hard to celebrate with everything going on in the world. All we can do is care for ourselves, our families and friends and let them know we care and make good times happen.
Take Care Everyone!

The only good thing about JW's that I can think of is that they get to meet their neighbors, and don't have to spend money on birthday presents, or deal with Christmas. Just kidding.
The peanut butter is only for Sybils family, we get to eat the good stuff. We are eating Blondies beans, so we can fart and belch them home. Who is Gloria?

I think I'm just going to be a red blinking light on my butt that says - "Back Off or suffer the wrath of Scrooge!" Then again I could just go get a T-shirt made that says - traffic was too busy for me to be beamed up so I'm stuck here FOR YET ANOTHER CHRISTMAS ON EARTH!!! ugh...

I was just thinking of Blondie's comment and have also noticed how pretty the lights look. I live in a victorian home and the neighborhood does look pretty with the lights. I should put some out since I have 2 porches. I've done the icicle thing the last few years, but have these blue icicle lights that I have had probably for the past 2yrs. and haven't even used. OK, I think tomorrow I'm at least going to put the white ones up on the back porch. 🙂

Of course, Ladeska, I like your approach too 🙂

I guess I'm still in the mode of Happy [email protected]#ing Holidays!!!!! 🙂

Don't get me wrong though...I do like Christmas in alot of ways...just don't like the fake crap, especially the family scene where you pretty much despise everyone there and what they are doing - basically being fake. But, that was "my" family and not necessarily everyone else's on the planet. I used to go and press my face to the neighbor's window and watch them together on holidays and wish that I could be one of the children. My home life on holidays was always severely abusive. My father saw to that one. So, now I fight all that and pretty much do well I think...considering.

It's all what you make it and what you choose to think about, to enjoy, to share with those you truly love and who love you. It's not about material presents, but presents of the heart and good times spent really sharing "that". Gifts come in funny packages and sometimes it's just as simple as sitting down and blocking everyone else out and listening to each other, or helping someone do something or giving them something they desperately need or really, really want.

Most of the people I know - just want to "get along" with each other for one Christmas....

Here in multicultural Houston--the holiday lines have a tendency to blur. There is a house near where I used to live that has lights EVERYWHERE--and it has lawn ornaments to cover all aspects--Santa and reindeer, snowmen, the nativity, carolers and just to make sure that no one is offended a Menorah.

Up the street there is a house that has the reindeer pushing the sleigh and fireworks are a must for New Year's Eve.

Our house has had the same foil wrapping on the door for 2 years and the same faded red bow--it was a big hit on Easter and on Halloween, we told the trick or treaters that the house was in costume, too. This year we may actually get around to putting up a wreath.

One year we put lights on the motorcycle and stuffed a Santa suit and sat it on the seat. Our neighbors know enough to expect the unexpected.

Anyway, after growing up with a very rigid tradition, I like to shake things up around the holidays--SO,
I say set Frosty free Blondie--just don't get caught.
If I don't have a job come spring--your on for Vegas.
Later.
