Ok, so when I went to boarding school we did something called comfort zone bans. We had to hang out a little with people that we normally wouldn't talk to. I have been thinking about the thread about exclusion and cliques and I believe that, no I don't expect to get answered every single time and in addition to this site I see a counseler, talk with family and friends and keep a journal. But all I am saying is, boy wouldn't it be nice if close to everyone on this site could say that they recieved a virtual hug at some point. I mean I have been using this site for a year now and no I am not hurt or anything but I do think that that would be a really awesome claim to be able to make.

That reminds me of something. I went to a business meeting last month and we had a questionairre which needed to be filled out by 3 of our peers... but it HAD to be 3 people that we've never met before. We were forced to interview total strangers!! YIKES!! Talk about anxiety!

The hardest part was the initial introduction... walking up to them COLD... the fear of being rejected... What if they didn't like me???? What if they refused to answer my questions???.... Ugh!!! But, then I thought... "Hey, they have to do the same thing too! Maybe they feel the SAME WAY"... so I sucked it up and did it.

Turned out that they were all wonderful women. We are all in the same business, in the same point in our lives and had a lot in common... but I NEVER would have known that if I wasn't FORCED to step out of my comfort zone for a moment and meet them.

I think it's a great idea!

Thanks Loverbee!!!

Here's another hug for ya... (((((loverbee)))))))

TC

What a kind thought! I think the more we know someone and/or take a chance with someone, the more we recognize our similarities among each other.

Goodmorning everyone... The reason I was thinking about this is because when I did do the comfort zone bans, it was extreme in the sense that we had to spend a week only having five minute conversations with our best friends a day and we had to talk to those that we didn't know or get along with instead. So that is how I met my ex who is my best friend. We had six wonderful years together and now we are taking a break but we are still very close. I never would have known how much I cared had I not been forced to talk to him. When I did go back to talking to my best friends I also appreciated them more but it was nice because I think the more the merrier. So adding those people I had met to the mix was amazing. I hope everyone feels loved today. I know that I do. My ex brought me breakfast and my sister called me today too.

((loverbee)) I am going to try to step out of my comfort zone every day on this site.
so here's a hug for you ((loverbee))
I've read your threads but I rarely respond because I feel stupid and unrealistic saying gee, I've never had your problem but I know how you feel. I don't know how how you feel. I do feel sympathy and marvel and your strength however.

Sometimes it's much easier to talk to a total stranger than someone you know or met before.

Goodmorning all. You know, speaking of talking with a total stranger, I am about to be moving in with one. I put an ad on this thing called craigslist because I am going to be moving to NYC soon and I thnk that it would be cool to live with some girls my age. Well, one girl in particular really hit it off with me and now we are going to be roommates. so heres to a fresh start. I mean a really fresh start. My ex and I were talking yesterday and it occurred to me that I am so hurt by the fact that I was left behind and all by my family (my "dad" disowned me and my brother and step mother won't speak to me) but I have left people behind too. I guess that means we are all human. So I am going to try to just be. I hope I can do that. In the mean time though it is nice to know there are so many kind souls on this site especially.

(((loverbee))) I think that we all deserve hugs and support. I think that it is tough sometimes when we step out. Once we are comfortable...it gets tougher. I love your thoughts here.

Speaking of comfort zones. At a retiremnet banquet for one of our teachers, they assigned seating. so the friends forever 4th grade team was cut adrift. i endign up sitting with the cafteria manager, the art teacher and the school nurse. It was a blast. we had a great conversation that had nothing to do with how our students were doing. Supeer good idea, this stepping out of our comfort zones.

I am a native chicagoan born and raised in a tiny little suburb thirty minutes outside. come july 31st I am going to be stepping out of my comfort zone and moving to NYC. The big apple. A far cry from the suburbs but I am taking it on full force and I am totally excited for it.
