I'm feeling like a complete idiot. I bought this used car. I didn't even ask the price! I was desperate. I went to the lot with my $400 and drove away in a car. I had lots of anxiety that night. My payments are $320 a month, and my insurance went up $125 a month. I'm petrified. on top of that, I wrote a $518 check to cover tax and registration costs. I have no idea how I will cover that one.
Then, this weekend the steering goes. And the car leaks water onto the floor and trunk. I have to call them today to fix this. I've had it less than a week. I am terrified. I don't know what to say. I'm afraid I won't be assertive, and will get taken advantage of yet again.
this sucks.

Strong, I think it's a 90-day, 50/50 warranty, but the guy did tell me that if there was something wrong, I should bring it right back to him and he'd take care of it. We brought the car back the next day to have the leak taken care of, but their garage said they couldn't fix that, and it needed to go to a body shop. Then this weekend we had the steering issue. The power steering stopped working. My husband put in fluid, it worked that day, but started acting up again at night. I took today off to take my son to the doctor, which I'm not going to be able to do if they can't fix the car or get me a loaner right away.
I called once already, and will call back at 9:30.

Well, i hate to admit it, but i manage a used car lot. i swear im not a crook though...lol.
Depending on what state you live in, some states there are NO lemon laws on used cars. Im in indiana, and there is no law here. We do sell warranties on our cars, and my company will actually do whats called "goodwill" on anything that ges wrong within the first 30 days, though we dont advertise that fact.
I would love to know the particulars of your deal, and what the car lot has to say. Ive been doing this for a couple years, and know the ins and outs. Is the car lot a mom and pop place, a nationwhide chain, or at least a pretty large, well known company? is it a buy here/pay here lot?

It is a buy here/pay here lot. They must LIVE for customers like me. I asked no questions. I went in and said I need a car, please help me. I'm basically a single mom with 4 kids. They ran the numbers, handed me keys to check out the cars they said I could afford, and I picked one. Oh boy. I swear, I didn't even ask how much it cost. It turns out that it is costing me around $8,000. I pay $160 every two weeks. The car has a security device so that if I miss a payment, they can turn it off. I'm calling him back now to see if he can help me with my situation.

My lot is a buy here/pay here lot as well. i would like to think they are going to take care of this for you, like he said.."if there are any problems bring it right back". i hope thats the case.
Loaner cars dont happen TOO often in this business, not with buy here/pay here lots, but its not unheard of. Ive loaned them many times because of errors on our part, not the customers, which is what your situation is.
i would assume the water in the car is a windshield leak, and that does need to be done by a glass and/or body shop most times. The power steering pump sounds like it needs to be replaced, and that should be able to be done relatrively easily.
Are they being nice to you so far about this, or dodging the issue and giving excuses?

Well, they are being very nice, it turns out. I was able to bring the car over this morning. He put power steering fluid in so I could take my son to the doctor. He told me to bring it back later so he can make sure there are no leaks or something else more serious. He also said that after the steering problem is taken care of, he'll get the car to a body shop to take care of the leak. I feel better now, especially since the news at the doctor wasn't great -- see other thread -- son's tumor.
