Hi everyone, I am back again. I spent 10 days in Europe, in Scotland (mostly the Glasgow area, although I went into the highlands a few days) and Amsterdam. I met up with my guy there again, as he lives near Glasgow, and he showed me a wonderful time.

He also asked me to marry him when we were in Amsterdam. It was quite romantic and picturesque, a nice bottle of bubbly champagne and a gorgeous platinum diamond solitaire.

To think that less than a year ago I was bemoaning an ultimately violent and unsatisfying relationship and now I am so happy with a gentle, loving man who cares for me and has my best interests at heart. I swore when I got divorced that I wouldn't get married again and here I am trying again. I am such a weirdo!

Anyways, I have to say. NC was the best thing ever for me to get over my exBF. Now all I have to do is testify against him in trial next month. šŸ™

But other than that things are relatively good. I'm trying not to drink any more. One day at a time....

Hey!! What a great news story! sounds like an incredible trip, and congrats on the engagement.

See! You are proof that it is sooooo WORTH IT to walk away from someone who doesn't give you what you need. Look at what you have now!

Again, warmest congrats!

snuggly hugs to everyone! I'm so jazzed. It really is all about learning to love yourself and value yourself enough to put YOU first, look out for YOU and your needs -- other people can and should take care of themselves.

I think everyone here deserves and can have a happy, fulfilling relationship of mutual respect and caring...but we have to get away from the masochistic desire to "save" someone else. I had to learn the hard way that I can't love someone for what I know they could be...I need to love them for who they are right at this moment.

OMW -

I went to the castle of Count Montrose, where William Wallace was held prisoner (I think, I couldn't really understand what my BF's uncle was saying, ha ha ha) - his uncle lives right down the street from the ruins. There are a ton of run down castles dotting the landscape there.

Scotland was gorgeous. Something about the landscape touched me in a visceral way. I loved it and plan to go back often if I can help it, after my BF gets his greencard (it's always better to go someplace with someone who knows the terrain). Because this is his homeland, he took me to lovely little inns and pubs - one was older that the US, it was licensed in 1735! He knew all these knooks and crannies.

Glasgow was a strange city. Modern and beautiful - the museum of modern art there is lovely, archaic and mysterious at the same time. You can be walking in a lively shopping district and pass by alleyways that looked the same was they had since th 18th century, probably. It was like the city is continually revitalized, but they combat the decay from the outside in rather than the inside out. If the alleyways and tiny narrow side streets are the veins of the city, than it is definately suffering from arteriole sclerosis!

But to walk on cobbled streets and slate walkways that you know have been tread upon by people who are centuries-dead...makes you feel so insignificant yet at the same time, a part of the greater beast of humanity. Makes you feel alienated and yet connected at the same time.

One thing that was difficult was - the language barrier! I swear I got maybe one or two words out of every 5. I was stuck going to lunch with my BF's mum, his aunt, and his aunt's mother one day. It was a "wee little cafe" down the street from him mum's flat. The background noise was awful and I sat there the whole time in silence because I couldn't understand a word they were saying!

He'll love it. Although they still hate catholics up there.

Hi Cici,
Appreciate the picturesque information about Scotland, it sounds as if it wonderful country. I have often wondered how I would "feel" traveling through, as if perhaps it may be all too familiar in some strange way.

I do remember the Scottish accent being very thick though, and a bit difficult to understand.

Glad you had such a wonderful experience, and have met someone you love and loves you.
