I have no memories of my childhood. My memories don't begin until I was about 12-15. Even then I don't remember then completely. I only remember smells and things I remember telling people about them.

I have NO idea why I can't remember and it scares me. Lately it has bothered me more and more that I am unable to remember my childhood. I think it is bothering me so much it is starting to affect me physically. I don't even know where to start.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Ideas?? Comments??

My memories start around the age of 12 and yes, it is scary. I asked a psychiatrist about it once and he told it was nothing to worry about - but then he's the one that misdiagnosed me and put me on the wrong medication, so I've never been certain he was right about that either. I had never even realized it until I was visiting a friend about 10 years ago who had lived next door to me when we were children. She and her sister were talking about all these people who had lived in the neighborhood, kids we had played with and gone to school and church with, and I still cannot remember anyone they were talking about. I really don't even remember my friend's sister as a child. I just decided that what was past is past and not to worry about it. Looking over my shoulder isn't going to help me. I need to keep my focus forward. Perhaps that's the best way to handle it. At least for me, it is.

Thank you for responding. Perhaps you are right. Perhaps I need to start looking into the future instead of the past.

But I believe that the past makes up who we are in the future. What we have experienced and the people we have met influence who we are.

Thank you again for your response.
