Myself and my 5yr. old will be involved in a custody evaluation in a few weeks. This ONE individual will determine whether she lives with me or her father. I don't know how to behave or what to plan for. I'm scared to death of losing my daughter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My entire life has come to a standstill over this traumatic issue. Thanks to all.

This is very scarey, and totally out of your controll, except for the fact that you can get two more opinions. When I went for the custody hearing, just a few questions were asked, and it was determined that because I was the primary caretaker I should get primary custody due to the trauma for the children. The female children usually go with the mom, unless there are legal, immoral, or real off the beaten track abnormalities. These are usually done in power struggles with the parents, how sad for the child. Do you have custody right now, is this a money issue? The third opinion that I mentioned, if you have the finances, the child could have her own attourney, and shrink and that breaks the tie between the mom and dad, sad facts but the way it is today.

As far as how to act, you should act from your heart. I know you'll be nervous, but you want to show yourself and your environment with your child as they really are so that the best decision can be made for your child. No need for false appearances.
