Hi, I believe I really have a chemical imbalance. I wonder if I should seriously consider taking medication or not.

I know I need help but don't think counseling will totally help.

Should I get medical help? Does anyone have any input?

Thanks.

Personally, I would be wary of the family practitioner that prescribes psychtropic medication. Only a liscenced psychiatrist should really play with the biochemical cocktail that is the brain. They have to go to medical school specifically for the treatment of "chemical imbalances."

I've been on the gambit of psychiatric medications, barring antipsychotics/antisiezure meds. I've been on wellbutrin, amytriptaline, buspar, taken sleeping pills ambien and sonata, and even went the holistic all natural route with 5-HTP.

I vehemently do not want any more antidepressants. They scare me, and they aren't a medication to be taken lightly, as a lot of people seem to think. NO medication should be taken lightly, not even aspirin.

So see a mental health professional.

Find out if you DO have a chemical imbalance and then decide where to go from there.

Cici is right...find a therapist who can speak with your medical dr. IF it is felt you might benefit from meds.

Like Cici says though...they shouldn't be taken lightly. AND where talk therapy may not be a cureall neither are meds. ... For some people a combinatin of both work well.

But don't self diagnose....
