Some of you may remember my mice vs ahimsa thread last year...

Well they are back and I'm so sad and upset. I don't want to kill them but last year I proved that I couldn't evict them with live traps and finally after struggling for over a year, I resorted to the snap traps. I had to kill so many because the house was infested.

This year I'm back to struggling with this. I know I need to bring out the snap traps but I can't find them and I really don't want to.

So I'm just indulging in magical thinking that if I will them to leave that they will. This is stupid but its where I am.

I think I might take a few days off work as soon as I can so I can find the traps.

I'm writting because I need support to not avoid this. Its been a week since I first found mouseturds and I've only half heartely looked for the box of traps from last year. The whole time wishing that if I just wait a little longer that they willl go away. I know that isn't reality but I so don't want to kill them. I love mice. But I don't like what they do to my home. They can live outside all they want, and they could even live inside if they wouldn't pee, poop and chew up everything.

hey Chelonia, I dont know what kind of lifestyle you have, but if you have children, they're not good for your family. They aren't good for you either. If you dont want to try doing the snap traps, why not try getting a professional into the home, maybe they can help

I am single with pets. Its just me living in a brick home in the middle of the wilderness in Mexico. I strongly beleive in not harming other beingings unless there are no other options. Professionals would use toxins that are worse than the mice themselves. I've tried live traps and deterants with minimal success and they return in a few days. If I have to kill them I will do it the most humane way possible, which is the snap traps. (poisons and glue cause an agonizing and horribly painful death for these poor creatures and have horrible effects on the environment. Plus with the snap traps their bodies can be fed to carrion eaters at the research station).

I just feel horrible that I have to do this. I don't want to and I'm upset that life has presented me with this situation again. I know I have a tendency to avoid these things and that is the worst thing to do, which is why I'm asking for support and encouragement. It pains me to kill anything. Mice are such peaceful and strong willed creatures that I really enjoy when I encounter them in the wild, so its especially difficult for me to have to kill them. I wouldn't mind so much if I could control them with live traps and releasing them on the other side of the river, but that is just not meant to be. I did put out the live trap but so far no one has taken me up on my offer for a free trip back to the wild. I still haven't found the snap traps. I've decided to buy a few more next time I'm in Monterrey if I haven't found them by then.

Thanks for your support and encouragement.

Chelonia, What is worse men or mice ? Been around them both in barns my whole life. Just joking for you guys here. I was thinking of the book, But on the serious side, I know you are the most caring and animal lover I have met here. But actually the poison is easier for you and them. This is just my opinion. The traps freak me out....I have seen them get out half alive. The green pellets in caps in shelves with bar crumbs work the best. Your other animals will not get hurt this way. Sometimes they are just impossible to rid of. I am sorry to be so blunt......but mice are rodents that are through evolution carry diseases. When I was a chils I raised them....I had cages and loved them. Times are different now. It has got to be hard for you. I just wanted to support you but I just feel this way about it. I am back and will support you anyway I can. Your Friend, horsefly

Men are definitely better lol. The problem with mice is that they do get into everything and I mean everything. They carry disease, they multiply, they communicate probably through the smell of their urine as to how to get into the house, they get into packages making you discard food, they chew up everything, they climb unbelieveably well, they are creepy running around walls, and are just plain pests. You cannot fall in love with them and say poor mouse. They breed like crazy and have to be eradicated. That is the only way. The longer you put it off the more mice you will end up having to kill. I know it is not easy but you must do it pronto to make your house mice-free.
