Good advice, MamaC. Also, maybe try writing to Ellen Degeneres. She takes on issues too- can't hurt.

There are many great ideas here. I just wanted to validate what MamaC and some others have shared, tho' I cannot read this entire thread, my time is limited here.

Calling and writing State Senators and Congress persons is great and can be effective.

Long story short. My sis is from Arkansas and not much help in that State as where I come from. She needed to get her child to the counselors, big story short. Had no ride there, no car at the time; big family problems going on etc. No one to help her out.

Big sis, (me) called Govenor's office and also County or State Social Services. Ranted how poor services were for poor folk in that State, what MY State would provide, what I thought they SHOULD provide, what waws at least humanely the decent thing to do let alone what the State's Social Services's responsiblities were to taxpayers, yadda yadda. Get the pix?

Within the week the Social Services got interested and took action to help them out.

Also writing to the press can be an avenue. There must be some groups out there also. May try the yellow pages to see what women's groups or agencies are out there.

Sorry if I have repeated what you or others have mentioned. Your situation so reminds me of my sister's situation.

Caring,

Sew

No trust me I appreciate all ideas at this point in my lifIe. I feel boggled like this can't be happening, I must have missed something somewhere.

I even called my food stamp case worker and told her everything and asked, have I missed something..she said no, this is a huge problem in our country, housing that is.

I did write Oprah yesterday and a congressman, and I will be working on writing every person I can think of this week.

I figure something somewhere somehow has got to give.

Please say a prayer for us.

Hi Hopeful: What Sew wrote just reminded me...

I have a cousin in New Mexico who has an adult son who is handicapped. They just relocated to there from California. While in California he was able to work in a special program, therefore able to earn some money on his own but of course under supervision. It gave his Mom at least some relief from having to care for him day in and day out, plus he was able to learn some skills. Since relocating to New Mexico, none of the agenicies would help her. So- she called the Governor directly- and got ahold of him, and within a week her son was put in a program.

I guess with situations like this it pays to go to the top and make yourself heard.

Good luck to you Hopeful.

Hopeful:

Maybe a thought here...

Call those offices and get on a first name basis w/ the secretary. If anything gets done in an office it is the secretary that pushes it thru. maybe first ask her name. Pull her into the conversation w/ I have 2 daughters, do you have kids? See where I'm going? My hubby thinks it funny I know folks at companies on a first name basis, but when I need my script or something it most definitely helps to be courteous and interested in the person who can get things done.

Well I could do that, I am not a shy person and do not have problems talking to people. I will just have to keep on pushing forward everyday...making calls..trying to heal myself etc.

Hi Hopeful

Always here for you.

It is a frustrating situation, and I have been frustrated with "the system" and how slowly it works, too. But I think it will work for you, and know that you have the smarts and the motivation to make it through the hard times. Take care of your back.

Yes I am alive. Things aren't so good. I did get a call from someone per the governors request and once again I was told, I've applied for everything there is to apply for lol.

They did tell me to write my congressman, so I wrote them and they said maybe they could get my ss moved up. Who knows. No help.

Anyway, now I just feel screwed again by the friends who let me move in. They now told me in one month my rent has got to move up to 650 which is two hundred more and more than my child support income. So I have been cxrying for about twenty four hours straight.

I just don't know how much one person can take.

It seems in this world, everyone is just out from themselves, even when they claim to be your friend.

If I could just work, I would not worry at all.

But............trying to focus again on my options............boy fun

Ya know I had been so optimistic, thought things were going to be ok. Now I am feeling the opposite.

God must have a plan for me, and I have to trust we will be ok.
