Hey
puptent,

Please
do!

At one time, I
participated in another online site that was pretty secure (by that
I mean that you could not just put the user's name into google and
get a hit) so it was protected in that aspect due the secure log in
in the user's forum.

However, sending
private pm's options (pm's = personal messages, I soon learned)
posting pics, facebook stuff, emails and stuff were NOT censored
and at times - well, it got to be a bit 'sticky', sometimes - and
well, sometimes not...to say the least...

All in all it did
have its advantages in these ways....(Given the sad fact that a
survey cited that 25% of Americans have no one to confide in...:-(
but in another - (in the end,) I really opt for the anonmity aspect
as I feel it truly provides the best security and safety.....all
the way 'round - - -all things considered.

There is another
site: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/

But I must warn
that user names ARE available and cross-referenced via google...so
best NOT to use anything remotetly personal.

Not sure about the
level of security there though, I think that it also has the
personal message option which I assume would allow the exchanging
of names, facebook stuff etc....still - not a good thing in my book
~

I
checked out the site therapy.com. Right out the gate in less than a
few hot minutes I saw some contradictions. They said that it is
anonymous. Then there are all of these people using their pics as
avatars as well as using an actual name as their screen name. Thats
real anonymous. Then they have their rule of not telling people
what to do and not giving advice unless asked and there I saw
people giving medical advice and telling people what to do with
there drugs and doctors. OK. Whatever. And this place is ran by an
MD. He ought to know better. Instead of site admin. banning posts,
etc. they let the people there who write the most posts and get the
most thank yous do it. Not the type of thing that makes me feel
safe talk about allowing the inmates to run the asylum. It did have
some good testimonies from alcoholics and drug addicts. I enjoyed
reading that info. OK I will look up the next one and give you my
2cents worth.

checked out the second one. That is the craziest web design I
have ever seen. Badly needs updating. Too make matters worse I kept
getting an error message. Not user friendly.

puptent,

Yeah. Thanks for
checking it out.

Like I said - I
wasn't really clear about 'all of that' and am gald to get a second
opinion to check it all out.

Hopefully (maybe?)
someone else here might be able to find a more suitable alternative
(and share it with the rest of us?) should this site continue on
the downward course that it is now.....

Hi
everyone,

PupT, there isn't
much more I can add to what everyone else has said. I did want to
ask you tho what your experience was when you first "signed" up.
I'm just wondering if anything has changed on that front. Basically
just reading the rules, creating a screen name and password. Did
you have to give her your email?

Hi tBt! I think
when anyone emails the SC you automatically get an auto response.
After the SC reads it, she'll decide if she wants to respond or
check into whatever the issue is. At least that has been my
experience. And if I remember correctly when you do write to the
SC, you have to put in your email address in order to get the auto
response.

The second time
the Elam guy posted like 20 threads at once, I wrote to the SC
saying that I'm sure she's probably inundated with mail, but there
seems to be this problem.......She wrote back saying that I was the
only one she had heard from and that she'd take care of
it.

I really do think
it's time she or SOMEONE explain what is going on with this site.
It's only the fair thing to do.

Maybe I'll try and
write her. Has anyone else tried writing her regarding the lack of
monitoring and no longer needing donations?

I
haven't written about that specifically but I did write her about
an offense ... one that she would have normally addressed and all I
got was the auto response and the behaviour continued. She hasn't
intervened in a thread in months.

Hepburn, thank you for taking the time to help clarify this
issue with me. Yes, I did have to provide an email address. Then I
had to check it and click on a link back here to begin posting. I
do see the note someone left about no longer needing donations. I
did see a place to click for comments, complaints, suggestions. If
you find out anything please let us know.

TBT,
gosh I hope that none of this stuff about this site closing is
true. I really do like it here. If it closes I think that this will
be the first and last counseling site I care to try out.

Bitsy, Thank you for taking the time to give me the history of
this site. I noticed another web site right beneath this one and
saw that name. This explains why some people here are the way they
are.
