So today at work I've been thinking about breaking up with my girlfriend. We've been dating for about year now and I'm starting to see, through the help of my therapist, that we have a codependent relationship. Lately she's been very controlling of my time and other things in my life that it's made me feel a bit suffocated. And I've also seen the many ways that I've unhealthfully depended upon her to fulfill my needs. I'm going to give it this weekend to decide but I'm so torn because I have so much invested in this relationship that I don't want to throw it away. I'm tired of the confusion and the hurt that both of us experience. I believe that on the whole we have a solid relationship but I can't help but pick at these cracks.

Perhaps some counseling could help the two of you work thru your issues? If you truly love one another, it couldn't hurt, right? Just a thought.....recognizing wrong behavior doesn't always have to mean throwing in the towel completely.
