dear friends,
I am applying for a different job where I work. I've been in my current job 7 years. This is scary and exciting. Obviously, I will be one of many candidates, but the signs are there that I would probably be the one selected. I'm extremely well qualified and have excellent references.

I'm telling my management today. Its a small world and its better that I be the one to tell them. I'm not unhappy really, just restless and pretty near ready to grow.

This new opportunity fits very well with my long term goals. I love my current job and I'm good at it, but it really doesn't fit with my dreams. But its comfortable and familiar. The new job will be different. Less pressure in many ways, but more in others.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not be one traveller, you know?

Usually, when I'm standing at the fork, I KNOW. I'm pretty ambivalent. Which could mean I've already stayed too long in my job or that I really need to be careful.

help?

Bonni, i'd go for it....you know deep down what you want, and the opportunity is there, so take it.

yes, being comfy in a job is great but if its not part of your long term career goal, then its time to change.

I wish you luck & keep me posted, ok!!

((camer)) my bosses took it well. It was actually a very helpful process. I'm feeling much more inspired about things. Its going to be a tough decision when it comes down to it.

Bonni,

You should go for it! It sounds like this is something you really want and it would be more aligned with your life goals. Change is always a bit scary. If this is not the right time for you to make this job change, then you won't be the one selected for the job. But you have to at least give it your best effort. I'm glad that your bosses also are supportive. That is also a good sign.

“When you have come to the edge of all the light you have

And step into the darkness of the unknown

Believe that one of the two will happen to you

Either you'll find something solid to stand on

Or you'll be taught how to fly!”

Chelonia,
What great insight! Thank you. Its weird that only a few weeks ago, I decided to let go of the idea of getting my PhD, not to hold so tight to it and here I am facing a choice that could make that dream happen. Well, I don't really have a choice yet though. I wonder who else will apply. You never know.
