I went to the gym last night and the treadmill I got on was out of order. That pushed me over the edge. I left the gym in tears, went home and cried almost all evening. I have a headache today like a bad hangover.

And of course I'm starving and just want to eat a big bowl of anything hot and meat-based.

Kathy, I'm trying the oatmeal for breakfast anyway. Any change is better than nothing, right?

I'm starting to see a pattern... when I'm not seeing anyone exclusively, I feel really good about myself, I seem to take care of myself, and do my own thing. Then I get into a relationship and I get sucked in and forget myself, and it's all me me me, I do this. It's not the guy's fault. I just start to question everything. The extra 25 pounds I've picked up (yeah, 25, that's two sacks of potatoes plus a sack of oranges) aren't helping.

I'm terrified of getting older, looking at myself and thinking that this is the best it's ever going to get, and it's only downhill from here.

I hate it hate it hate it that men can date younger women and that women find men attractive even when they're into their 60's and 70's (hell, I saw William Shatner on TV last night, he's on his fourth marriage, and his wife is 30 years younger than he is!)

So back to my goal at hand... to lose those 25 pounds and see if I can see myself underneath this layer of protection I've put on.

I bought some new sneakers yesterday since my old ones had holes in them. Yeah, I grew up on the east coast, does anyone even say "sneakers" anymore?

Man, can I relate.. When I'm flying solo, I'm just as cocky as I can be. But when I'm dating someone and it gets serious, all my hidden insecurities come out to play. I have learned over the past year, that you can't run from the insecurities. You have to face them head-on unless you want them to keep popping their little heads up. Best wishes....

ginger,

You can loose that 25 pounds. I know it can be hard and frustrating. It will just take time and committment. A long ago I made several healthy changes in my diet that became habits.

I never eat fried or greasy food. I eat my salads without dressing if I'm at a restaurant. At home I add one teasp of olive oil and raseberry vinegar. I always eat a peice of fresh fruit after lunch and dinner.

I eat my vegaetables fresh without any topping or sauces.

I'm glad to hear you're trying out oatmeal for breakfast.

I use 1/3 cup uncooked rolled oats, 1/3 cup powered milk, 2 tablespoons of wheat germ, 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed and 1/3 cup orange juice for mositure. I mix it all together and add 1/3 cup blueberries and a some raseberries.

I absolutely love this mixture. it is very sweety and very healthy. It tastes like a dessert treat for me every morning. It is my favorite meal of the day.

Good luck! You might check out Gabe Mirkin for diet and nutritional advice. He is an M.D. and bases all of his advice on scientific studies.

Hey guys -

I know the philosophy of this diet goes against everything we've been told, but...I have been eating like this for the past 6 months (even before I found this site), and I am at an all-time low weight (except for when I was on drugs, but I'm not going there!)

Check it out:

http://www.warriordiet.com/

So - every morning I have green tea (yes, with a litle sugar); during the day I might have a handful of almonds, a small can of tuna, salad, organic veggie juice, etc.

At night...well, I've been known to consume 3 Filet-o-Fishes in a sitting. With fries. But usually, pasta...

Exercise? Sure, but not much. 20 minutes of walking/jogging 5 days a week (mostly walking, but jogging as much as I can during the walk itself); then 3 days a week, squats, push-ups and crunches (2 sets of 15 each, takes 10 minutes).

And yeah, I drink wine every night and I smoke (bad habits that I am trying to break), but now that I am eating better and "working out", I am less inclined to "party" at night. I look forward to the exercise - it clears my head.

The best part is - no "guilt" about dinner. Anything goes. And I have found that when I am free to eat whatever I want, I tend to make better choices, and eat less.

Except, of course, for the ubiquitous Filet-o-Fish. Bane of my existence.

Good luck, guys - keep posting tips, we can all use 'em!!!

LOL! LMAO!

Hey, SD -

Yeah, Cheetos no longer turn me on.

Actually, today I had almonds for breakfast, cherry tomatoes with low fat cream cheese and ham slices for lunch,...and now H is on his way to Macs to get Filet-o-Fish and fries.

Guilty as charged! But I bet my size 3's will still fit...

Good to hear from you...how is your life going???

Thanks for remembering me from those times...means alot!

D.
