I got diagnosed bipolar about 2 months ago and they have had me on one med combo to the next and each one seems worse then the one before it. I just started a new job and that has mad it worse too. I can't function at all let alone handle life on a daily basis. I've already had to come hme early from wok(I've only been there three days) because of an anxiety attack. They have me on zoloft and buspar and I take xanax when I reaaly need it. But none of them work. Today I flipped on my boyfriend fro no reason(as usual). He got mad at our new puppy for stealing his sandwich off the table and was yelling at him. That triggered me and I threw the dogs food dish across the house and started screaming at him. I cut myself pretty bad on the dog bowl. This was after I had taken a xanax. I get abusive and violent when I have a manic epuisode and I feel like walking the yellow line when I have a depressive episode. I never would(walk yellow line) because I want to get better and I refuse to let this get the better of me...though sometimes I feel it already has. And I have no insurance so I can't afford a psychiatrist. Help!!! If you can....

Hi there,
You are not crazy, you have been diagnosed bipolar. Is this correct? can you get a second opinion?

Please look up the condition and research it as much as you can, i am not a doctor but i believe that the drugs used for bipolar are not those that are prescribed for anxiety. If you are being given the wrong diagnosis or the wrong drugs it will be harder for you than it needs to be.
So please look up the info, you can even search the web or the newsgroups.

See if there are any medical charities or organisations that deal with bi polar, and phone them up and talk to them and ask questions, they will be able to help you. Do it today, when you find people who are knowledgable about the condition it will make you feel much less alone.

I recently contacted a charity that helps with anxiety and agoraphobia, i have suffered from these things for years. I wish i had contacted them years ago, you can just phone the organisations up and find out what advice and support they have to offer. They will be able to tell you if they think you are getting the right treatment or give you advice on what to discuss with your doctor.

You do not have to be alone, but you do need to get looking to see what organisations are out there and call them.

Any thing you want to talk about with me or others here, we are always here to listen, but I would be much happier knowing that you are also getting proper advice on the medical front because as i said i am not a doctor.

Try to relax, and beleive me that this is all new at the moment, once you know for sure whether you have Bi-polar or Anxiety, then you will be able to get treatment.

If you have only been diagnosed 2 mths ago but have already tried different drugs then i don't think you are giving any of them enough time to work.
Most drugs for anxiety take aroung 6 weeks to start doing their job right, before then there is a settling period where sometimes it makes the symptoms worse for a while.

If you try a new drug, at first it will make things a bit worse rather than better, but you have to give the drug time to settle into your body, if you keep changing drugs all you will get is the initial stages of each drug never giving any of them time to see if they work of not.
None of them work instantly, often as they go into your system for the first time, they produce symptoms of anxiety.

Were you having anxiety attacks before the medication, what led you to seek the help that diagnosed you as bi-polar?

Im sorry i cant help more than that, if it is anxiety then i can tell you all my experiences and what has helped me, but i would happier knowing that you have got the right advice from your doctor, it just seems a little unclear to me wether your doctor is treating you for anxiety or for Bi-polar, which are two different conditions to the best of my knowledge. I could be wrong though so please research this yourself. I always beleived that Lithium is the most effective drug for bi polar, wheareas xanax, and prozac and more for anxiety and depression. Please check this with your doctor.

When you get the right treatment you will be able to start on getting beter, and remember we are here with you as you do it.
