This past weekend I painted about 6 hours - 2 less than planned. I didn't finish 2/3 though. I am trying to get faster and better, still developing my style.

Kessi - I'm here! this thread is for you and me, and anyone else artisttic and trying to get inspired, motivated, and out of their hole!

Your paintings are truly beautuful! I can't match up to this... but will show you when I get the one I'm working on finished.

What is your advice for getting looser and faster? My style is to tight and perfectionist, I may not finish for another 6 months!

Hi, just logged on, so I have only just seen this. I'm so pleased, I was worried you wouldnt come back!! Put your paintings on the web while they're not finished, and track their progress - then you'll have a record. The only reason that my ones are as far on as they are is - that's how I left them years ago. I can't paint loosely or quickly, my style is also tight and detailed, but if that's how you are, its how you are. I spent years trying to loosen up, but it isnt me. Remember we're all unique. You managed more hours than me. I'll try to do better. Today I went to work, and had to do various domestic things, but I'll have another painting session tomorrow. (There, - Ive said it now, I'll have to do it) :-). Hope to hear from more people out there,
Back tomorrow, Love K

I haven't done anything yet, but have an idea from practicing yoga - the feeling of centering. A bright colorful light emerging from a kark place. Electric!

Anam,

Can you put up some of your work too? Please? Before you move out of your house, I want to see the murals? Can you post your pics from your trip to Southwold?

Love,

Zinnie

Anam, one of the links is on the thread called To Kessie from Site Coordinator. She is a wonderful artist.

Kessie, how did you get that water to move on that picture? Cool.

Anam is an artist too, wow, more and more people. The water thingy is done with a bit of javascript called "lake.class" I cannot remember how to actually do it, because I made that picture some time ago and I forgot the instructions. If you do a search for lake.class you will find web sites with instructions for doing it.
I painted again today, I did about three hours, and I made a bit of progress I thought. I was feeling really pleased with myself, and then what did I do? I called to see my alcoholic's housekeeper and she talked to me about him and all those hopeless feelings just engulfed me again. Sorry I wont talk about this here. I just feel so angry and upset with myself for being so f****** stupid.

Hugs Kessie...it's okay to vent anywhere...that's what artistic license is all about...and YOU earned it 🙂

Thank YOU for helping me to find instructions. YOU are talented Lady and don't let the BS keep you down long ok....put your emotions into your work. I always found that when I hurt the worst, I was the most creative. I really do love your work. The colors and textures and just everything from composition are soooooo wonderful. Hugs

Kessie,

Sorry about your bum phone call.

But, I agree with MJ, you are so talented. I love the picture of the hotel room with your husband reading in the red chair.

My husband Grandfather was a very talented artist. Hanging above my computer is a portrait that he painted of my husband when he was about four. We also have another of his paintings above the fire place that he painted while he was traveling in Spain.

Kessie - perhaps you can guide me on something. The painting above our fire place was in his Grandmother's house for at least 40 or 50 years. She was a smoker and also had gas heating, so the painting is faded. A friend told me that a co-worker of hers had one of her paintings restored, but had lost touch with the co-worker. Can you recommend anything?

Z.

Keep going Kessie! Three hours is great... I can't wait to have time this weekend to work. I plan on having at least 2/3 done - or spend no less than 6 hours over the weekend. I know I can do it. Then I can start on my yoga piece. maybe working on them simultaneously will help the other losen up?

Would it help inspire all of you artists here... if I broke out my ruler and compass and drew a really fine stick person?

I love reading this, but I must admit to a twinge of jealousy...

Zinnie, restoration depends on whether the painting is an oil, water colour, etc, and on the support, - ie canvas, paper, and so on. Oils when exposed to smoke and general atmospheric pollution usually develop a dark film over the varnish, (if they are varnished) and if they are reasonably robust can usually be restored using a solvent. If you plan to do this yourself you need a light touch. Tears in the canvas require more specialised restoration and you would have to take it to a restorer. In the UK restoration is expensive. Water colours are much more difficult to treat. When a water colour is really faded it is impossible to restore, although certain sorts of blemishes can be removed. If you tell me the type of picture the faded one is I may be able to post detailed instructions on the web site.
Cheers, K

Thanks Kessie,

It is oil, varnished on canvas. The canvas itself is in good condition, no tears or anything. When my husband's Grandmother passed away, each grandchild got to pick their favorite picture, and he chose this one.

I think in all honesty I would feel better if I were to take it somewhere, as I would not trust myself and would never forgive myself if I ruined this. Guessing size here, going to say 36 x 24 inches in size.

Thanks!

Z.

Never mind artist2. You were doing fun things.I've let myself down too. I managed to finish my tiny landscape, (The finished thing is on my little web site) so I was feeling a bit pleased with myself, BUT then I went to see my alcoholic's houeskeeper today just for a chat and a cup of tea, and while I was there HE phoned her from India. She couldn't say I was there. So. I just sat like a lemon while they talked. Afterwards, I just burst into tears. It seemed to negate all the positive things. What a wally I am. I just dont know why I'm so 'up and down' all the time.
It would be nice if the other artists on this site would show their work too, I feel a bit 'out on a limb' at the moment. Do you think you will show us your work?
love K

Well, I havent painted this week, but have done other things, written something, finally finished some upholstery, (very domestic) I intend to start on the next picture this weekend, but I'm dreading Sunday. HE's due back from India - and sooner or later HE'll ring. Everything in that situation makes me feel like Alice Through The Looking Glass. Nothing is as it seems. If I keep away, I'll stay sane - avoid the red queen!

Where Oh here are the other artists on this site?? Come out, I know you're there.

What did I say? HE did ring, and did I tell him to get lost? did I say " I think we've said all we have to say to one another"? did I put the phone down??

Did I hell. I sat by the phone with a stupid grin on my face saying 'nice to hear from you, D****' and 'how are you feeling?' and 'OK I'll see you next week'
He knew what horrible thing he'd done, it was the first thing he mentioned. He said I'd over reacted. Oh well, could have been worse. I could have said 'I'll see you tomorrow' What it is to have a sense of humour.

Anam I can't easily tell you hwo to build a web site, but give me time.

Incidentally, the 'Red Queen' (see previous post)is a character in a book. I realise that I say the most obtuse things. Sorry, no wonder no-one listens! The Red Queen was a character based on the queen (of hearts?) - a playing card. domineering, powerful, cruel, capricious, and unpredictable. The book - Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Anyway, on a brighter note, I have continued to paint, started two new pics, and put them on the web site. Things are looking up, thanks in no small part to this site.

Cheers, K

Kessie I have my work on digital camera. So can you start from there when you have changed your deck.

Some times the Red Queen is useful - can be the only card to play after having received a lousy hand.

Anam.
