I have been taking Effexor for the past few years. I don't have any side effects that I notice and I can definitely tell it helps with my depression. I have had to work with my doctor to get the correct dosage but it works fine for me. I know that just because it works for me doesn't mean it works for you or that you won't have side effects but give it a try. If it doesn't work for you, your doctor can try something else. The most important thing is that you are open and honest with your doctor about how you're feeling, side effects, etc. And I guess you know it may take a while for it to get into your system and help you start feeling better. Good luck.

I am taking effexor too. It helps me a lot with depression. I combine it with therapy. They only side effect that bothers me is that it makes it harder for me to cry. Many times I feel a need to cry but the tears won't come. If I stop taking effexor my tears flow freely but I also start getting depressed. So its a trade off. I don't know if that will happen for you. Maybe not. Good luck.

I was on Effexor for about a year for treating depression and bulimia. It worked for me BUT inconsistenly. I had to be patient, (as did my doctor!) in getting the right dosage. I never felt it was really good. My doctor loves this particular drug as he finds it works very well with many of his patients. As for me, for the past 6 months, I have felt pretty awful on Effexor. Unable to sleep at night and as a result lethargic all day. Unable then to function and unable to show up for work. Depressed about all of this, and so a vicious cycle... After much time practically pleading with him, we are now slowly switching to Lexipro.
All of this is different for everybody. You have to be patient and try it for awhile and see how it works for you. Don't jump to conclusions because it often takes time to "kick in" and takes time to get the dose right. As for me, I hated it.
Anyone on Lexipro? Side effects?

I tried it and hated it. However - different drugs work for different people. Zoloft works for me, but a friend of mine takes effexor and is happy with it.

I tried it briefly for depression and OCD, however, the side effects were too much, and I took myself off of it. I was on it 9 years ago when it was first out on the market. I have found that therapy works for me, meds don't, but as has been said, it's different for everyone. My side effects were horrible...I didn't have any appetite whatsoever, I was starving to death, my sexuality was completely taken away, and I felt absolutely nothing...sure, my depression was taken away, but I felt like I couldn't feel any excitement, happiness, etc either. I think it's trial by error with these drugs. Good luck.

rfl,

I take Lexapro and I don't have any side effects at all. In fact, I just feel very normal, minus the depression and anxiety.

I was on Effexor for a while. It worked in the beginning, but then seemed to wear off. But like others have said, it works differently for different people. Good luck!
