Doing okay I guess.

Question: Asking for help, this opens up a person, exposes there heart and soul for all too see, exposes weaikness then they can get hurt again...

AAre you asking if this is true?

Um...no I don't think so. I think, that its only when you open your soul up and take a look at it..well only then can you start to get stronger and heal. Its strange, but thats what happens. You become self-aware, you begin to see your weaknesses, so once you have recognised them you start finding out ways to strengthen up those areas. Certainly there is a period at the very beginning of healing when you are VERY vulnerable, which is why some women walk straight out of an abusive relationship and straight into another one...thats why when you are healing, you need to take really good care of yourself and be really selfish for a while, which is why some women can become quite hostile and angry for a while after...its a defence mechanism. It exposes your weaknesse only to you..and then its up to you to find the tools to fix those weaknesses and make yourself stronger.

You getting me army?

Rev.

Amry - has someone told you that if talk about problems that you are weak? Also it is scary to open ourselves as yes, we do make our selves vunerable- but it depends on who you are opening yourself up to... someone that would use what you share against you... or say a therapist that would use the info to help you.

Now for me when I started opening up it made me stronger because *my secrets* that I held within lost their power over me.. it actually made me stronger.

I'm scared to let go of those secrets. It's the only thing I have control of. Does this make sense?

Army, the attitude of appearing weak if asking for help is common, thats something that may have been drummed into as a kid, but to be honest...its quite an old-fashioned attitude. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, and its brave to admit you need help...

Yes at home we grew up with don't tell, anyone one anything, keep it in the family no one's problem, but your own... It was a weakness to share a problem with someone.

and I think men , esp yesteryear, were definately more afraid of showing emotion or asking for help...but what happens when we don't let go - we can't get better.
