Exactly RW. GG it is as RW just said. Depression can be caused from thyroid, from a chemical imbalance, from hormones, and other illnesses also.

I did have my thyroid checked last year. I do have this done every two years because I had a partial thyroidectomy in college due to a tumor. No problems when checked, just said I was depressed.

Okay you two, what should I do next? I am sick of this...can't take much more of this ridiculous cycle and worrying about having friends, etc. Wish I didn't want any, then it wouldn't hurt so much.

I was on synthroid for a few years, then they said I didn't need it anymore. On repeated checks, still same answer, thyroid functioning okay.

I've had the fibro since 1994, but when i got the shingles 4 years ago, qnd I'd never had asthm before this, then the fibro started progressing and well, still is. And sometimes I get an attitude as to "well, if nobody cares then why should I". Which is wrong. But it is hard to e left behind. My family doc has somehow gotten it into his head tht if i'd just lose weight i'd be all better. i gained 80 lbs in less thqn q month. And the other 2 docs say "go ahead and exercise but you'll not lose an inch. So as GG says, the cycle goes on. I don't really have much depression tho. I think coz I grew up w/ my mom bein depressed and I refuse to be like her. How's that for motivtion. lol. but GG, that's what it takes for me. What motivation do you need?

Haven't read that book. Trying to get through CoDependent No More and the book someone recommend about Second Adulthood for women. Just haven't felt like reading either lately.

GG, I love ya', Honey!! We have some out of town company, and I haven't had much time to come here. But I just want you to know that I'm thinking of you and I'm sorry for your pain.

I'm on Zoloft, and this has truly helped me with depression and anxiety. Things don't seem so dark, anymore. Just a thought here. If one doesn't work, you can try another. I tried several until I found the right one for me.

Anyway, Sugar, I need to get to bed, but just know that you are loved, treasured and full of worth and value! You have a LOT to offer, and you radiate with your own specialness. DON'T ever forget that!!

I'll chat again, soon!!

Jen

Mama, don't know what motivation I need. Just want a friend, a hug, some support, which I can't get in this so-called real life.

Mama and RW, I appreciate your time this early morning. I know you really can't help me, but I do want any ideas you have to offer. I am just so down tonight.

I am going to have to go to bed soon, if I can. Gotta get up at 5:45 and it is going to be a hectic day for me.

gg

I am here for u, but about to go to sleep. Just wanted to share that depression can be caused or be made worse by all kinds of things that should be ruled out. I just really learned this first hand when my meds for my physical illness were recently changed, and low and behold, my depression significantly improved....so much so, that I must cut down on the antidepressants..they are making me anxious (and I just cannot cry at all). So, some med I have been on for years (that I suspected was a contributing factor...as this is a known side effect) really was adding to my problems! My work situation is still as awful as ever, and I don't need any anxiety, so I will try to taper the dose slowly. My point is, I was sure this was PTSD and my brain chemicals and never gonna improve. Suddenly, it all changed.

You might want to rule out all other causes, but do what you can to feel better in the meantime. Who needs to be miserable. Anything to feel better! Life is short. You can also take steps to minimize the negatives. If the friends you currently have are not good for you, maybe your inner circle needs changing. Maybe you need some stronger boundaries. Define what a true friend means to you. Don't include less in your circle of friends, and nuture potential friendships with people who may meet that definition. Drop those who repeatedly violate your boundaries after you peacefully communicate to them.

I hope all this helps for now.

I am very stressed about going back to work and my general safety there right now. That is the best I can do right now, hunny. Keep us informed. We are here for you! Love, P&L

Jen, thanks for the boost. Would you be my counselor? Your message made me feel better than 3 visits to the one I tried.

The exact cause of depression is not known. Many researchers believe it is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain, which may be hereditary or caused by events in a person's life.

Some types of depression seem to run in families, but depression can also occur in people who have no family history of the illness. Stressful life changes or events can trigger depression in some people. Usually, a combination of factors are involved in the development of major depression.

Major depression is one of the most common chronic conditions. Each year, more than 18 million Americans -- men and women of all ages, races, and economic levels -- suffer from depression. It occurs more often in women.

Women are especially vulnerable to depression after giving birth. This is a result of the hormonal and physical changes that they have experienced. While new mothers commonly experience temporary "blues", depression that lasts longer than 2-3 weeks is not normal and requires treatment.

GG This is just a little of the info. If you want more let me know.
