I am wondering if anyone here has had Crohn's Disease and can tell me what it has been like for you, how it started manifesting itself, etc. I ask because I was diagnosed with IBS back in my 20's, but in the past year or so I have developed abdominal pain that's gotten a lot worse and it just doesn't seem the same anymore.

I never needed to take Advil before for my IBS, this is just really bad. The pain is usually in my lower right or my upper right. I get some relief when I pass... whatever. Or if I press down on wherever it hurts and feel something gurgle past. I also have looser stools more often than not.

So the pain and the loose stools are the two symptoms I have that match Crohn's but they could also be the IBS progressing. Can pain get so bad with IBS that you just want to curl up in a ball on the floor and scream?

I have had gallbladder problems ruled out so I'm pretty sure that's not it. Any help you guys can give would be appreciated. I've heard Crohn's gets misdiagnosed as other things because the symptoms are so similar to other intestinal diseases so I'm trying to better understand this... and if I decide to get help from the doctor I want to be able to make sure they don't overlook something that might need checking out.

Just out of curiosity, do you take anything for IBS. I have heard a lot about chrohns disease and usually its manifestations are similar, but in the meantime, just to rule out your IBS, you may want to try a daily tablet that you can take to control the IBS. It is made by digestive advantage and it is called Once Daily Irritable bowel syndrome. My bf had tried every med available and once I got this for him he has been two years free of an IBS bout. So maybe it may help you. But keep a diary of your symptoms as they happen so that you can tell your doctor about them if it continues. Goodluck

Thanks loverbee. Where can you find it, is it over the counter or prescription?

It is over the counter, most pharmacies carry it. I know you can find it at CVS pharmacies, brooks, etc...what city do you live in?

This is gong to sound odd, but I don't have crohn's, but my best friend does, so I know a heck of a lot about it. I myself have IBS, so my friend and i can relate in some ways- expect that she (almmost) never get the constipation that can come with IBS.

The only way to know that you have Crohn's is to be diagnosed. A definite marker of Crohn's onset is a significant loss of weight. Weight loss, loose stools, acute abdominal pain... all signs of possible Crohn's.

It may be wise to try to alter your diet a little and work on getting rid of stress if you have it. Also, be sure to supplement your diet because any time you have lots of loose stools yourbody isn't getting the nutrition out of what you eat that it should be.Whatever it is, I hope you feel better soon, and please, if it continues, go see your doctor!
